發(fā)布:2024/11/16 23:0:2組卷:2引用:2難度:0.7525.The U.S.jye.ai still out in front of global competitors when it comes to innovation(革新),but American universities-where new ideas often spread-have reason to look over their shoulders.
That's especially true for technologies like 5 G phone networks and artificial intelligence and they're exactly the fields where the U.S.jye.ai to lead-and also the ones where Asia, especially China,is catching up.Universities from China get more patents than their U.S.jye.ai in wireless communications, according to research firm GreyB Services. In AI,17 of the top 20 universities and public research organizations are in China, with the Chinese Academy of Sciences topping the list, says the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva.
There's a special place for universities in the development of science.Universities educate future scientists and can be incubators(孵化器)for pie-in-the-sky ideas-some of which turn out to be game-changers.The list ranges from search engines to DNA technology that's behind a whole industry of gene-manipulating(基因編輯)treatments.
However, government aids to universities haven't been growing for more than a decade, meaning they've declined in real terms and as a share of the economy, leading to the cost increase for universities and meanwhile somehow discouraging the teaching staff from putting all their hearts into their scientific research.
"If you look at the federal dollars, they've not really changed considerably," says Stephen Susalka, head of AUTM,a technology transfer association whose members include 800 universities."Other countries are catching up.We can't be satisfied with what we have achieved."

發(fā)布:2024/11/16 15:30:2組卷:5引用:1難度:0.8530.Growing more food to feed the world will require more people to work in agriculture.According to the National FFA Organization,we need to produce as much food as possible in the next 40 years because of the growth in population.
Indiana remains pivotal to meeting this need.Indiana is one of the nation's most productive states in producing tomatoes, corn, soybeans, ducks, chickens and eggs.At snack time,Indiana ranks second in growing popcorn and making ice cream.
The Indiana Business Research Center reports that agriculture contributes at least $25 billion to the state's economy, which creates more career opportunities for young people. "There are more than 300 careers in
agriculture," said Joshua Bledsoe, the FFA advisor. "It starts with the farm in agricultural production, but then all the way to the plate there are tons of career opportunities once the product has left the farm. Therefore,we need folks who will understand processing and food science. We also need people in marketing and communications as well as folks in law."
Including skills in computer technology,Beck's Hybrids is the nation's largest family-owned seed company.Bruce Kettler, the former director of public relations for the company, explained that technology is important to the company's development. For example, computer technology on tractors(拖拉機(jī))allows farmers to follow the exact same pathway across the farm field throughout the season, from planting to harvesting and all steps in between.
Indiana is enjoying a harvest season, and even larger harvests will be needed to satisfy the world's increasing need for food. The amount of land used for farming has decreased by at least 25 percent since 1950.Therefore,growing more food will require more technology and more people. As Bledsoe put it,"You are going into the global workforce when you go into agriculture, and the opportunities are endless."

A.It is under the control of a family.

C.It mainly provides computer technology.
D.It is the largest seed company in the nation.
(4)What does Bruce Kettler think is necessary?
