  • 251.When teenagers break the law, they are usually put into a special kind of prison. These prisons are for juvenile offenders, who are still young.
It can be dangerous in these prisons.Sometimes the juveniles hurt each other when they are ther. Some of them even kill themselves. Many adults want to stop the violence(暴力) in these prisons.
A group of people think that there is a better way to help the juveniles in prison. They want to put small groups of them in the settings(環(huán)境) that are more like homes. They think this will help the juveniles learn how to stay safe.
When the juveniles are in these special homes, they can get help.Coumselors (輔導(dǎo)顧問) can talk to them about crime and try to teach them that it is bad.Hopefully this will help the juveniles make better choices after they are out of prison.
Some states have already tried this plan. They say that it has worked. And California wants to try it,too.Other people do not think that it is a good idea. They are worried that the violent juveniles will break the law again if they are not punished. These people want anyone who breaks the law to be punished and put into prison.
However, one man that was in prison when he was young said that he learned only bad thing sin the prison. He was not taught how to make good decisions. He said that he only learned how to become more violent. He does not think prisons help juveniles at all.

  • 252.讀下面的文章,然后判斷文章后面的問題,正確的答案寫T,錯誤的答案寫F。
Puberty(青春期) is the process of life when young people leave childhood and move into adulthood. It is difficult for teenagers because puberty has an influence on both their minds and bodies. They need to understand what is going on with their bodies, how to deal with those changes and how to start taking responsibility for themselves.
Some young people may begin puberty at 8,while others may not start until 14 or 15.Usually,teenage girls start puberty two years before teenage boys do.For both boys and girls,it is usually complete by the age of 18.
During these years, the body develops in many ways.Feelings can also change quickly.
Teenage boys during puberty often begin to take unnecessary risks.Their attention is on having fun and being accepted. They like trying some challenging outdoor activities like skate boarding and rock climbing. So they need to think deeply before they act and make good decisions for themselves.
A girl's personality(個性)often doesn't develop in the same way as a boy's.Teenage girls sometimes don 't believe in themselves. They are no longer sure about their own feelings. However, they are usually afraid to tell their parents or teachers about their problems. For this reason, teenage girls should be encouraged to discuss things with trusted adults.
Parents, schools and communities can do a lot to care for and help young people. It is everyone's responsibility to help young people grow into healthy adults.

(1)Puberty is the process of life when young people grow from children to adults.

    (2)During puberty,a teen's body develops in many ways,but feelings don't.

(3)Teenage boys during puberty enjoy some safe activities inside.

(4)It's better for teenage girls to discuss things with trusted adults during puberty.

  • 258.Imagine using your coat to look through the internet, send and receive messages, and even read a map.Yes,you read that correctly-your coat.
It may sound silly, but it's something scientists are working on.Researchers at Shanghai's Fudan University have made a new type of cloth that can be used as a digital display(顯示屏).
Professor Peng Huisheng and his team have spent 10 years trying to make"digital cloth".After testing different combinations, they chose two materials but worked:a silver-plated yarn(鍍銀紗)that can light up and a kind of thread(紡線)that conducts(傳導(dǎo))electricity.
The results have been admirable. It's not only wearable and fold able, but also washable. After being put through 100 wash-and-dry cycles in a washing machine and folded 10,000 times, the cloth remained almost unchanged.
Peng believes that the new cloth could be used for many things. For example,it could allow a driver to view a GPS map on their arm while they drive around. It could also help people communicate better if they have language barriers(障礙)or disabilities.
In one test,Peng's team collected brainwaves from volunteers who had either been playing a game or meditating. The waves were then translated into messages like "anxious" or "relaxed"and shown on the cloth. This could help deaf-mute(聾啞的 )people "talk" to each other in the future.
"We hope that new materials will shape next-generation electronic devices by changing the way we interact with them."said Peng.

D.The "feeling" shown on the cloth couldn't help deaf-mute people"talk" to each other.
