Wangfujing Street is a busy shopping street in Beijing.There are many shops.You can buy books，clothes，shoes and many other things on this street.
The street is more than 700 years old.In the past，lords（貴族） and princesses（公主） lived there.Next to one of the lord's houses there was a well.One year，there was little rain.Many people had no water to drink.But the lord's well still had lots of water.This lord did not want to give the water to anyone.So he asked an old man to stand in front of the well and stop people taking water.But the old man gave water to poor people all the time.He said， "My lord，if I don't give them water，they will die.Then not anybody can work for you." Finally，the lord agreed with the old man.
This is how the street gets its name. "Wangfu" means the lord's house and "jing" means the well.
