任何事情都有好壞兩面,正如"塞翁失馬"所闡述的哲理!
Once upon a time, there lived an old man on the northern frontier(邊界)of China. It was such a poor small village which far away from the cities. One day,his horse disappeared. His family looked for the horse here and there but couldn't find it.His friends came to comfort( 安慰)him. But the old man was not sad at all.He said the loss might turn out to be a good thing. And he was right.A few months later, his horse came back with another horse that was even better. His family and friends were so happy, they came to congratulate(祝賀)him on his gain.
But once again, the old man thought the event differently. He said this "good luck" might turn out to be misfortune in the end.
And he was right again.A few days later, his son fell off the new horse and broke his leg.So the son was lame(跛的)after that accident. Then there was a war(戰(zhàn)爭).All the young men had to join the army(軍隊)and many of them died(死亡).The old man's son was not chosen to be a soldier(戰(zhàn)士) because his leg was broken,so that he lived with family safely.
Nowadays people use "The old man on the frontier lost his horse" to comfort those who have some misfortune. It implies:Misfortune may be an actual blessing. As the old saying goes:" Bad luck sometimes turns out to be good luck, and good luck can sometimes be bad."
