Fiona Simpson,23,was on her way home. She was driving on the D'Aguilar Highwav in Queensland,Australia,It was a long, lonely road, but she had company at least. Her 78-year-old grandmother and four-month-old daughter were with her for the journey.
Clouds started to roll in overhead.Fiona hadn't bothered to listen to the weather report that morning.Mostly because she had expected to arrive home before any sort of downpour hit.As she drove down the D'Aguilar Highway, however, the slight pattering(拍打) of rain began to beat into an angry drum beat upon the roof of the car.
Even though she had been driving quite slowly, she could hardly see the lines in the road. The pouring rain soon became so heavy that her windshield wipers(雨刮器) couldn't keep up.Fiona knew that her only option was to pull the car onto the side of the road until the bad weather lessened.
She stopped the car when suddenly she heard a sound that completely shocked her.The loud bang came from behind her, right near the window where her daughter sat.The glass of the window was broken, and a moment later she discovered that something equally sharp and dangerous was hitting her child.
It was hailstones(冰雹),nearly golf-ball-sized chunks of ice falling from the sky.Hailstones can cause serious damage.Even cattle can be killed as well if they do not seek shelter.Fiona dived into the back seat and tried to form a human shield(擋板) over the baby.Meanwhile, the hailstone was battering the roof of the car so loudly that she couldn't even hear the child crying beneath her.
Queensland had apparently been hit with a super-cell storm that resulted in tennis-ball-sized hailstones.Soon, even Grandma was being battered with the same falling ice.Fiona moved towards the front, still holding her baby in her arms, and tried to shield Grandma as well.Fiona found them caught right in the middle of the storm with nowhere to hide.

If there's one thing I can't stand people saying,it's,"I'm no good at anything...I don't have any talent." I just don't buy that at all.To me,everyone has at least one talent, and while it sometimes takes you a lifetime to find,it does exist. There was a time,of course, when I didn't believe that. What changed my mind was a seemingly small event that took place back in 1953.
At that time I was a high school student.I was a funny-looking skinny little boy named Eugene Orowitz, who weighed barely 100 pounds.I was a good student, but as far as I was concerned,in just about every other department I was a loser.I desperately wanted to fit in,to be something and do something well. But I hadn't found anything I was good at.One sunny afternoon, our gym class went out to the school's running track. The teacher taught us all various track and field events.I was a loser in all of them. Then came the javelin(標槍).Suddenly something inside me began saying,"Try it!Try it!" I had to wait my turn, though, because several others wanted a break at the javelin too.Shy and scared,I watched them, trying not to look too eager. Finally, when everyone had had a chance to throw—the best throw going about 30 yards—I looked at the teacher.
"Hey,Orowitz, you want to try?" he asked.
Embarrassed,I looked down, but managed to nod my head.
"Well, come on then," he said impatiently, and handed me the javelin.Behind me I could hear some of my classmates laughing. As I grasped the javelin in my hand,I was seized with a strange feeling—a new-found excitement. For some crazy reason,I was relaxed over what I was about to do,even though I'd never done it before.I raised the javelin over my head, took six quick steps and let the thing go.The same voice that had urged me into throwing it,now told me it was a good throw.
    注意:續(xù)寫詞數應為150左右。
I watched as the spear took off.My heart quickened______
That night I took the javelin home with me.______

I had just a very wonderful day.Although all my days were always wonderful to me,that day was completely different. There was a bulletin(公告)board saying that they would need to find volleyball players for the girls and I was so happy!I have been loving playing volleyball since my mother taught me how to play.I was so excited that I couldn't wait to play! Then I read more what was on that bulletin board, which said that here would be an audition(試演)after three weeks! "Three weeks?" I thought about it I did know how to play volleyball but I was not much of an expert in doing it but I still wanted to try.
After that I was determined to practice volleyball every day.I practiced hard again and again each day and never got tired of doing the same practice through all the days, and finally, the day came.I was so prepared for this and hurried to the gym to the audition. When I had reached the gym,I was surprised to see that 12 or 14 girls were lining up and I guessed I was the last one to arrive. Then our audition began. Some of the girls failed to pass the audition and some passed.
There was only one position left to complete the 6 girls to join the volleyball team and suddenly I felt nervous because the person in front of me was going to take the serve(發(fā)球).Then the girl hit the ball and then the ball didn't pass over the net!The girl hit her forehead and left, leaving me standing in the middle of the court.
Then the coach spoke, "Okay, you serve." She handed me the ball and I caught it with my hands. As the ball was in my hands,my hands were suddenly sweating and so was I!

  • 3.閱讀下面短文,根據所給情節(jié)進行續(xù)寫,使之構成一個完整的故事.
One winter Sunday, my little sister, Colleen, and I built the greatest snowman ever. We gave him a carrot nose, beautiful hat, cozy scarf and gloves. He was a masterpiece(杰作).
The next morning when looking outside, we smiled lovingly at him over our meal. We gave him a high-five as we passed by on our way to school. A lot of kids went past our house, so he was the hot topic at our school that morning. It was our pride!
The day dragged on until finally we could rush home. But as our yard came into sight, we saw something wrong. The snowman was gone! We only found a broken stick here, a torn glove there and balls of snow everywhere. Worst of all, the snowman's once-proud carrot nose lay limp(無力的) and half-eaten.
What had happened? We were both astonished and angry. But then, we were only kids, who wouldn't have anything taking away our happiness. Actually we knew only one thing: Our snowman would rise again. And so we rebuilt him.
The next day we came home to find another mess on the front lawn(草坪). For the rest of the week, the destruction was repeated daily. Each afternoon we'd return to find our snowman had fallen apart, and then we built again.
By Saturday morning, we had a plan. We borrowed a really big bucket(水桶) from Mom, filled it with water and left it outside. The next morning, it was frozen solid. We packed snow all around the ice block as the base(底座) of the snowman. Then we built the other parts of it once again. The trap was set, and we waited for the snowman bullies(破壞者) to come.
