  • 1426.International tourism is becoming increasingly popular, and large numbers of people from all over the world come to visit famous places such as the Great Wall of China and the Sistine Chapel(西斯廷教堂) in the Vatican .(1)
They've thrown rubbish every- where, brought more traffic and even done serious damage to ancient relics(遺跡) .
       (2)
For example, the paintings in the Sistine Chapel are being damaged by people breathing on to them when they visit.Their breath contains very small drops of water that are present in the air. That may raise the humidity (濕氣) of the air and damage the paintings.Damage in other places such as the Great Wall is because of tourists climbing on delicate(脆弱 的) areas.Besides, roads have also been built to help visitors climb the Wall easily. These activities can cause a lot of damage to the area.
What can we do to deal with these problems ?(3)
This is because fewer visitors will result in less damage.Secondly,we should make strict rules about which areas people can visit and what they can do when they get there. For example, special paths can be built .(4)
Visitors to indoor places can be asked to wear masks(面罩) to protect the paintings.
       (5)
If we do not do this, these places will disappear from our planet. And people who live hundreds of years later will have no chance to see these great places.
A.Firstly,we have to cut down tourist numbers.
B.As for the damage, there are many different causes.
C.However, these visitors have caused many problems.
D.Also, people will not be allowed to walk
E.Happily, the Great Wall was built over 2,000 years ago.
F.In short,it is necessary to control tourism at famous places.
G.Interestingly, traveling is the best way to get to know the world.

  • 1428.There is an old joke among pilots that says the ideal flight crew is a computer,a pilot and a dog.The computer's job is to fly the plane. The pilot is there to feed the dog.And the dog's job is to bite the pilot if he tries to touch the computer.
Handing complex tasks to computers is not new.But artificial intelligence (AI) has enabled computers to handle many problems which were previously beyond them.
There is a problem, though. When people give computers the ability to train themselves, machine learning works.People struggle to understand the "black box" —how exactly computers teach themselves. When algorithms (算法)are doing small tasks, such as playing chess or recommending a film to watch, this "black box" problem can be safely ignored.
When they are deciding who gets a loan,or how to drive a car through a crowded city,it is potentially harmful. And when things go wrong, then customers, regulators and the courts will want to know why.
For some people this is a reason to hold back AI.France's digital-economy minister,Mounir Mahjoubi, has said that the government should not use any algorithm whose decisions cannot be explained. But that is an overreaction.
The difficulties caused by clever computers are not unheard-of.Society already has plenty of experience dealing with problematic black boxes;the most common are called human beings, who can't even figure out what's going on in a brajye.ai.In response to the weakness in humans, society has evolved a series of workable coping mechanisms, called laws, rules and regulations. Many of these can be applied to machines as well.
Humans have worked with computers on complex tasks for decades. One lesson from such applications is that, wherever possible, people should watch the machines.

(2)What are people worried about AI?

A.AI can only do small tasks.
B.AI will be too smart to control.

D.AI is dealing with something beyond their ability.
(3)What is the writer's attitude towards AI?

  • 1429.Why don't birds get lost on their long migratory(遷居的)flights?Scientists have puzzled over this question for many years. Now they're beginning to fill in the blanks.
Not long ago, experiments showed that birds rely on the sun to guide them during daylight hours. But what about birds that fly mainly by night?Tests with artificial(人造的) stars have proved conclusively that certain night- flying birds are able to follow the stars in their long-distance flights.
One such bird—a warbler(鳴禽)—had spent its lifetime in a cage and had never flown under a natural sky.Yet it showed an inborn ability to use the stars for guidance. The bird's cage was placed under an artificial star at migration time. The bird tried to fly in the same direction as that taken by his outdoor cousins.Any change in the direction of the make-believe stars caused a change in the direction of his flight.
Scientists think that warblers, when flying in daylight, use the sun for guidance. But the stars are apparently their principal means of navigation(導(dǎo)航).What do they do when the stars are hidden by clouds?Apparently, they find their way by such landmarks as mountain ranges, coast lines, and river courses. But when it's too dark to see these, the warblers circle helplessly, unable to get their direction.
