What he said發(fā)布:2024/5/23 20:38:36組卷:3引用:2難度:0.92497.We have all heard the expression: "Remember to stop and smell the roses." But,how often do we really take time out of our busy fast-paced lives to notice the world around us?I have reflected back on one situation many times since it happened and have learned several powerful lessons from it.
I am as guilty as anyone of ignoring the world around in this manner, especially when I am driving on California's overcrowded streets.A short time ago, however,I witnessed an event that showed me how being wrapped up in my own little world has kept me from being fully aware of the bigger world picture around me.
I was driving to a business appointment and,as usual,I was planning in my mind what I was going to say.I came to a very busy crossroads where the stop light had just turned red. "All right," I thought to myself, "I can beat the next light if I race ahead of the pack." My mind and car were in autopilot, ready to go when suddenly my absent-minded state was broken by an unforgettable sight.
A young couple, both blind, was walking arm-in-arm across this busy crossroads with cars whizzing by in every direction. The man was holding the hand of a little boy, while the woman was holding something tightly in her hands that slung to her chest, obviously carrying a child. Each of them had a white walking stick extended, searching for clues to navigate them across the crossroads.
Initially I was moved. They were overcoming what I felt was one of the most feared handicaps—blindness. "Wouldn't it be terrible to be blind?" I thought.Without realizing the danger they were in,they were walking right the path of oncoming cars.I was frightened for them because I didn't know if the other drivers understood what was happening.
However,as I watched from the front line of traffic,I saw a miracle unfold before my eyes.
Every car in every direction did the same thing.
Never noticing something different, the couple adjusted their route as they followed the coaching.發(fā)布:2024/5/23 20:38:36組卷:6引用:2難度:0.32498.Tom looks tired because he_____ the house since 9 am.( ?。?/h2>
發(fā)布:2024/5/23 20:38:36組卷:43引用:2難度:0.72499.As the weekend approaches, perhaps you're looking forward to a meal out or sitting in front of the TV with a takeaway. But as you settle down to enjoy that comforting plate of beef or start spooning that fragrant lamb curry over the rice, will you be worrying about whether you are really eating what was written on the menu?
Yesterday it was revealed by the Food Standards Agency that more than a fifth of the 665 meat samples tested last year contained DNA from animals not listed on the label.Of the 145 problem samples,73 came from supermarkets, while 22 came from processing plants. The remaining 50 all came from restaurants.
I have no doubt that over the next few years, the percentage of meal coming from dubious origins will continue to rise unless something drastic is done. Why?There are two main reasons.First, too many businesses are willing to boost their profits by adulterating their products in the meat industry.I believe there is a systemic problem within the meat industry that makes it particularly attractive to unscrupulous characters who are really nothing more than criminals, the second is the complexity and length of the meat supply chain. If you buy a chicken-based ready meal from a supermarket,as you might imagine, that chicken will pass through many hands before it ends up on your plate here.Worse still, the meat will often he partially processed somewhere along that chain-usually with salt and water added to boost flavour and volume-which is quite legal.
Obviously,it is impossible for consumers to be detectives about every piece of meal they eat.
However, what you can do is to avoid processed foods and never buy ready meals.Stay away from burgers made in factories.Don't go to chain restaurants.Instead,go to local, independent restaurants where it is more likely the chef and owner-often the same person-cares about where the meat comes from, and will be happy to tell you. So,try to buy your meat from a good local butcher.
And no,what I am suggesting is not going to hurt your purse or wallet. The essence, then,is to buy meat that has had as small a journey from field to fork as possible, because that is the only way you can he sure of what you eat. It's that simple.

It may seem disrespectful to class ice-age art as street art.But before the true age of such art was recognized, people who came across mammoths drawn in caves did actually dismiss them as crude graffiti(涂鴉).And there is no written evidence to prove who made cave paintings or why.Children as well as women
and men left handprints in caves.Maybe it was just stone-age teenagers who drew animals for a bit of a laugh.
So,perhaps street art is not only art,but the purest art around. The ancient Roman authority Pliny and the Renaissance writer Giorgio both thought the first artist was a woman who traced a shadow on a wall. The modern art theorist Dubuffet also included graffiti into the range of art.We now have video art, conceptual art, digital art. However, none of these non-manual types have much to do with a kid scratching a picture with a stick. But street art mystically returns to the original urge to make a mark on a blank surface.
Give the street art a second look.It isn't just an invention of the art market or media. It is a connection with our deepest creative roots:a connection that may be broken, like a signal struggling through the white noise of modern life, but more a signal from the ice age all the same,"Here I am.This is my mark.I'm human."

A.They both make use of paints.
B.They both have a long history.
C.They are both painted on the wall.
D.They are both created by children.
(2)Why did people in the ice age draw?
A.The reason remains to be explored.
B.Drawing was a daily habit of the people.
C.The drawing served to pass on information.
D.Drawing was a way to show love for animals.
(3)Why are Pliny,Giorgio and Dubuffet mentioned in paragraph 3?
A.To clarify the nature of the street art.
B.To share the definition of street art.
C.To show the development of modern art.
D.To introduce the origin of the modern art.
(4)What can we infer about the street art?
A.It is a way to reflect on the past.
B.It is an attempt to get away from the noisy life.
C.It is rooted in the understanding of the ancient life.
D.It is connected with the original creativity in the ice age.發(fā)布:2024/5/23 20:38:36組卷:6引用:1難度:0.5
