151.You know the feeling- you have left your phone at home and feel anxious,as if you have lost you connection to the world. "Nomophobia" affects teenagers and adults alike. You can even do an online test to see if you have it.Last week, researchers from Hong Kong warned that nomophobia is infecting everyone.Their study found that people who use their phones to store, share and access personal memories suffer most. When users were asked to describe how they felt about their phones, words such as "hurt" (neck pain was often reported) and "alone" predicted higher levels of nomophobia.
"The findings of our study suggest that users regard smartphones as their extended selves and get attached to the devices," said Dr.Kim Ki Joon.People experience feelings of anxiety and unpleasantness when separated from their phones.Meanwhile,an American study shows that smartphone separation can lead to an increase in heart rate and blood pressure.
So can being without your phone really give you separation anxiety?Professor Mark Griffiths, psychologist and director of the International Gaming Research Unit at Nottingham Trent University, says it is what is on the phone that matters- the social networking that creates Fomo( fear of missing out).
"We are talking about an internet-connected device that allows people to deal with lots of aspects of their lives," says Griffiths. " You would have to surgically remove a phone from a teenager because their whole life is ingrained in this device."
Griffiths thinks attachment theory, where we develop emotional dependency on the phone because it holds details of our lives,is a small part of nomophobia. For "screenagers",it is Fomo that creates the most separation anxiety. If they can't see what's happening on Snapchat or Instagram, they become panic-stricken about not knowing what's going on socially. "But they adapt very quickly if you take them on holiday and there's no Internet," says Griffiths.

The special suit is able to translate music into some vibrating pulses. And the users can choose different levels.
Chase Burton,33,a deaf film-maker from Texas,US,has been testing out the suit for four years. He understands that a deaf person's experience with music is very different. "When I was a kid,I'd lie on the floor so I could feel the vibrations from my brother's music playing." Burton told CNN.Now when he wears the vibrating suit,he says the sound hits different parts of his body. "Maybe it will shake me strongly in my knees first. And then I'll start to feel the vibrations in my back. And then I'll feel some pulsations." Burton said.
The designers have been working on helping a large number of deaf people to have a chance of a musical experience. In 2016,some prototype" suits were tested at a Lady Gaga concert in the US.The suit was also tested at a different concert in Las Vegas in 2019. It was given to 150 audiences at the concert, where half the audience members were deaf and half could hear.At the same time, the company has been improving the technology and planned to put it into the market soon. And the final goal of the company is to make the technology available to all.
"We truly think that anything that has an audio element" can also have a vibrational experience associated with it as well," the company s talent and business development director,Jordan Richardson told CNN.

A.The suit.
B.The music.
C.The concert.
D.The technology.
(3)Why does the writer mention Burton's experience?
A.Because he wants to introduce different ways people enjoy music.
B.Because he wants to tell how different it is for a deaf person to enjoy music.
C.Because he wants to show the sadness for not having the technology earlier.
D.Because he wants to call on designers to make better products for deaf people.

But why do you have dreams and goals, you still end up with nothing? What separates successful people from the dreamers is their persistent(鍥而不舍的) action. When you learn your lessons at school, you must work hard and not give up.You will often find some of your lessons very hard.Try and keep trying, and you'll be sure to successfully deal with any difficulty you meet with.If we have a hard lesson today, let us try our best to learn it well and then we shall be prepared for a harder one tomorrow.
This is the famous formula(公式) for success:
Dream> Believe> Achieve
Most people have what they want(Dream) and think they can realize their dreams(Believe). And then they do nothing. They just imagine their dreams can come true. When they get tired and lose a lot, they say angrily how terrible their life is.
I personally believe that if you really want to achieve your dreams and goals in life, you have to add one thing to your success formulas:
Dream> Believe> Act> Achieve
For me,act is the most important thing for success, and that's to take persistent action(Act). If you say "I can't do it" and give up,you can never do anything valuable. However, "I'll try" creates wonders.Let's remember that there will be obstacles in our life.We must face them bravely and solve them.Success is not something that falls from the sky. Most successful people made their dreams come true because of their persistent action.
Please remember:Action is the bridge that connects our dreams and goals to reality.
(1)What should you do when you find your lessons very hard?
A.Ask people for help.
B.Try and keep trying.
C.Get ready to create wonders.
D.Prepare for a harder one.
(2)The underlined word "obstacles" in paragraph 8 most probably means
A.dangers
B.difficulties
C.imaginations
D.wonders
(3)Why does the writer use the formula "Dream> Believe> Act> Achieve"?
A.To support his idea.
B.To ask readers to explain it.
C.To show what his goals are.
D.To discuss the importance of dreams.
(4)What is the best title of this passage?
A.Doing something valuable
B.Studying hard and making progress

(1)
The UNESCO report has looked into the effect of having female voice assistants. (2)
Meanwhile,by naming voice assistants with traditionally female names, like Alexa and Siri, tech companies have also strengthened a certain image of women.(3)
This does matter because they come back to affect how young girls and young women see themselves and the way they have dreams for the future. It's almost like going back to the image of women that was held in the 1950s or 1960s.
(4)
These mistakes happen because technologists do not have the diverse(多元化) teams and diversity of thought.(5)A.Unluckily,the embarrassing situation will probably last for a long term.
B.For example,in Norwegian,Siri means"a beautiful woman who leads you to victory".
C.It says they encourage the idea that women typically hold assistant jobs and that they should be "soft".
D.It's believed that the problem is a result of the fact that there are not so many women workers in the tech field.
E.Chances are never,as most of the AI we're used to hearing is "female",like Apple's Siri or Amazon's Alexa.
F.To deal with the problem, some technologists have been designing a genderless(無(wú)性別的) digital voice, reported BBC News.發(fā)布:2025/1/5 9:30:5組卷:1引用:1難度:0.5158.Crossing your legs is an extremely common habit, most people don't even notice that they're doing it when they sit down. While you may find it comfortable to sit with one knee crossed over the other,it might be causing health problems that you are not aware of.
A study published in Blood Pressure Monitoring stated that sitting with your legs crossed can increase your blood pressure. The reason for this is that the blood in your legs has to work against gravity to be pumped back to your heart and that crossing one leg over the other increases resistance, making it even harder for the blood to circulate. This causes your body to increase your blood pressure to push the blood back to the heart. You won't feel any immediate effects, but repeated,drawn-out increases in blood pressure can cause long-term health issues. So,planning to sit for a long period of time?Don't keep your legs crossed.
Crossing your legs at the knee can also cause pressure on the major nerve in your leg that passes just below your knee and along the outside of your leg, explains Richard Graves,a medical expert. This pressure can cause numbness and temporary of some of the muscles in your foot and leg, preventing you from being able to raise your ankle -- what we know as that "pins and needles" sensation. While the feeling of discomfort may only last a minute or two, repeatedly crossing your legs until they feel numb can cause permanent nerve damage.
So next time you sit down, try to get yourself in the habit of sitting with both of your feet on the floor. Not only will it help your posture and stability, but it will also save your health in the long run.
(1)What can we learn about crossing one's legs?
A.It is a very bad social habit.
B.It can do harm to people's health.

C.lead to heart attacks easily
D.improve the function of legs
(3)In the third paragraph "pins and needles" probably means
A.being highly flexible
B.being a little tired
C.serious muscle injuries
D.slight sharp pains
(4)What is the main purpose of the text?
A.To compare common habits.
B.To evaluate effects of an experiment.
C.To give readers some advice.
D.To introduce research methods.發(fā)布:2025/1/5 9:30:5組卷:9引用:1難度:0.5159.A survey said the average Asian dad spent one minute a day with his children.I was shocked.I mean,a whole minute?Every day?Get real.Once a week maybe. The fact is,many Asian males are terrible at kid- related thjye.aigs.In fact,I am one of them.
Child- rearing° doesn't come naturally to guys.My mother knew the names of our teachers, best friends and crushes. My dad was only vaguely aware there were short people sharing the apartment. My mother bought healthy fresh food at the market every day.My dad would only go shopping when there was nothing in the fridge except a jar of butter. Then he'd buy beer.My mother always knew the right questions to ask our teachers. My dad would ask my English teacher if she could get us a discount on school fees.My mother served kid food to kids.My dad added chili sauce to everything, including our baby food.
The truth is,mothers have superpowers. My son fell off a wall once and hurt himself all over.I demanded someone bring me a computer so I could google what to do.My wife ignored me and did some sort of chanting phrase such as "Mummy kiss it better," and cured 17 separate injuries in less than 15 seconds.
Yes,mothers are incredible people, but they are not always correct.Yet honesty forces me to record the fact that mothers only know best 99.99 percent of the time. Here are some famous slip-ups.

The mother of Albert Einstein: "When you grow up,you'll find that sitting around thinking about the nature of time and space won't pay the grocery bills. But some people do not think that kids should get rewards for doing chores.Susie Walton,a parenting educator and family coach, believes that by rewarding kids, parents are sending a message that work isn't worth doing unless you get something in return. "Running any kind of household is a team effort,Susie said. "A home is a living space for everyone in the family. It's important for kids to see that we all have responsibilities in the house, and that families decide together how they want their home to look, and how they are going to keep it looking like everyone wants it to look."
Other people believe that getting a cash allowance or other rewards motivates kids to do chores, and it also teaches them real world lessons about how we need to work to earn money. There are also new applications that give kids points and digital gifts that can be redeemed either online or in the real world. With the Chore Monster app, kids earn digital points by completing chores that they can turn in for real-life rewards such as extra Xbox time or a trip to the mall, "Our goal is to encourage kids to earn rewards," says Chris Bergman, founder of ChoreMonster, "Kids need positive reinforcement to help motivate them."
What do you think?Should kids be rewarded for doing chores?Or should kids help out around their homes without getting anything in return?
Write a 200-word response.Send it to tfkasks4 you @ timeforkids.com.Your response may be published in a future issue of Time For Kids. Please include your grade and contact information of your parent or teacher if you want your response to be published. The deadline for responding is February 18.
