  • 771.In the world of digital health,Silicon Valley-based Mindstrong stands out.It has a remarkable team and tens of millions of funding. It also has a fascinating idea- its app, based on mental functioning research, can help detect troubling mental health patterns by collecting data on a person's smartphone usage-how quickly they type, for instance.
The company's app collects information about how people are typing and runs it through a machine learning algorithm(計(jì)算程序) to determine which data can predict their emotional state. The idea is to use that data to establish a "normal pattern-so it can be compared with someone 's typing habits on any given day.If the habits change, slower or more anxious than normal, the app can warn a health care provider.
The promise of this technology has made Mindstrong incredibly popular since it was launched last year;already more than a dozen counties in California have agreed to apply the company's app to patients.Does the app live up to its promise? There's no way to tell.Almost no one outside the company has any idea whether it works, leading some experts to wonder if the technology is ready for the real world. "I wouldn't waste all that time and money in the wild until they get sure that some of those things are as specific as they hope they are," said Rosalind Picard,a researcher at MIT Media Lab,who is familiar with Mindstrong's work.
"It has passed the gold-standard clinical tests for depression and anxiety, " said Dr.Paul Dagum, the company' s founder. "We're confident, and we' re already seeing some really exciting results. " Mindstrong officials said that among their most encouraging results is that its app can even predict how a person will feel next week, kind of like a weather app for your mood. "For a clinician or someone looking after a patient, they know that it could be very, very powerful." Dagum said.

(1)What can Mindstrong s app do?

    A.Improve its users' mental health
B.Get its users to type more quickly.
    C.Discover its users' mental state.
D.Work out the causes of its user' trouble
(2)What is the second paragraph mainly about?

    A.The ways of collecting data.
    B.The app 's working principle.
    C.The analysis of typing habits
    D.The development of the app
(3)What is Rosalind Picard's attitude towards the app?

    A.Skeptical
    B.Positive
    C.Uncaring
    D.Defensive
(4)What can we infer about Dagum's opinion on the app?

A.The app has a powerful effect on anxiety.
B.The app can also predict weather conditions.
C.Care providers could be advocates of the app.
D.Doctors benefit more from the app than their patients.

  • 775.People generally like to pick out the best-looking fruits and vegetables when shopping for produce(農(nóng)產(chǎn)品),but Canadian supermarket chain Loblaws is attracting customers with badly-shaped produce at the price of 30% lower than normal-looking one.
A trial run of the ugly food line, named "Naturally Imperfect",began with only apples and potatoes to choose from.Consumer demand has been so huge that Loblaws is going to introduce more ugly vegetables and fruits like onions and mushrooms.
All the produce that will be sold through Naturally Imperfect would otherwise have been used in juices, sauces,or soups,or have not been harvested at all.The director Dan Branson explained that this program benefited both food producers who would otherwise have to let abnormal produce go to waste, and consumers who could buy fresh produce at low prices. And he was right, given how popular the line has become.
"It really went well beyond our expectation," Branson said. "I think it really spoke to the fact that Canadians are out there really looking for some options."
Of course,Canadians know that beauty is more than skin deep, and they also recognize that they can get the same flavor and nutritional benefits in spite of appearances. The positive response(響應(yīng)) to the initial offering of apples and potatoes showed the opportunity to expand the line and offer more options at a greater price to Canadian families.
"If you grow produce in your backyard, there will be a lot of produce that won't look as pretty as what you will see in a grocery store",said Branson. "And nature doesn't grow everything perfectly.I'd like to think if somebody were to take a No Name Naturally Imperfect apple, put it right beside a No.1 apple, close his eyes and eat them, there would be no difference."

    .
A.prevents people from wasting their food
    B.happens to be a win-win mode

D.enables consumers to eat more fresh produce
(3)What is Paragraph 5 mainly about?

B.Smart consumers know the importance of ugly produce.
C.Loblaws intends to improve customers' quality of life.
D.Customers' support promotes the development of the ugly food line.
(4)What do Branson's words in the last paragraph mainly tell us?

A.We should eat imperfect apples with our eyes closed.

C.Imperfect fruits are as tasty and nutritious as perfect ones.
D.The fruits grown by ourselves are more nutritious than those in the store.

If you want to see wildlife, you need to be out at that time of day, too.Compromise(相互許諾)with your family. If they don't want to get up early, see if you can take a walk at dusk.If dusk is when your family's busy making dinner, ask if an early-morning hike is something everyone would enjoy.
