2.Growing up,I was often the first Jewish person my classmates had ever met.I lived in Mississauga,Ontario, and was the only Jewish student in my grade—sometimes the only one in the whole school. This difference set me apart.
Every September,I hated presenting the note my parents had expertly made to a teacher I was just getting to know. The note explained that I would be absent during the Jewish High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.I flatted that my teachers would label me the "Jewish kid".
The real trouble always came as the local new year's festival approached.I was Jewish and celebrated Hanukkah, not this festival. At school,on one day before the winter break, every class would sit in neat rows in the gym and sing songs from the festival. However, the music teacher sometimes played Dreidel,Dreidel,Dreidel,a Jewish festival song, and I would feel hundreds of eyes staring at my red cheeks. As my friends counted down the days until the festival,I counted the days until it was over and I could go back to feeling normal.
Each year during primary school,my mother would coordinate(協(xié)調(diào))with my teacher to come to my class and tell the story of Hanukkah. She would prepare treats and materials depending on my age.Every time I would proudly stand beside her as she told the story of Hanukkah and explained the symbols. The children who had attended the presentation previously competed to answer questions. After my mom left,I would overhear them showing off their fried treats to kids in other classes.
My mom's annual visits to my school sparked(激發(fā))interest from other parents as well.Over the years,we had visits from parents who shared how festivals were celebrated in Germany and Italy.
My mom showed me,my classmates and their families that what sets us apart should be celebrated and shared,an intention which I continue to set for myself as I cycle through another holiday season.

3.Around the world, people are realizing the significant problems caused by plastic waste. In the last 65 years,we have become increasingly dependent on plastic. It's easy to understand why:it's cheap to produce, light - therefore easy and cheap to transport - and incredibly strong and durable. (1)
One popular solution to the problem is to prohibit single use plastics. In the British supermarkets, shoppers are encouraged to make more environmentally-friendly choices in packing and transporting their food. (2)
However, such plans may not be beneficial to eliminate (消除) the use of single-use plastic altogether. (3)
Another issue is that alternative materials to plastic are often more environmentally harmful than plastic.Take paper bags, for example.(4)
Clearly there is a need to reduce plastic waste and its impact on the environment. (5)
A.But it's these advantages that also make it so harmful.
B.They are very fragile and rarely reusable, unlike plastic.
C.One of the fields where single-use plastic has a vital role is medicine.

We've learned something from movies that kids love a good adventure. It's not too often that a group of youngsters go on a mission and actually come back as heroes. But that's exactly what happened in the story below.
It all started when an elderly woman went missing.According to numerous experts on the elderly,it's common for aging men and women to lose their way.It primarily comes down to unstable activity within a particular part of the brain. That causes direction loss and confusion, making it difficult for them to find even known locations.
A group of young kids decided to go bike riding, just as they had hundreds of other times. It was an ordinary day just like any other. With the weather beautiful where they lived in Sacramento,California, this was a perfect way to have fun.
While out and about on their bikes,a police officer approached the kids.He explained to them that a 97-year-old woman from the area had gone missing. So,he asked them if they'd keep their eyes open for anything unusual. They decided to try to find her.
Kids, are always up for a challenge. That's when Logan,Hope,Kash, and McKenna decided to look around.Although they were hopeful, they really didn't know if they'd find her.But they were very determined to do their best.
Off they went. So,that's when the four young kids thought it would be best to ride their bikes up and down the streets. But they did a lot more than that. They rode through parks, over hills, and anywhere else they could think of to try to find the missing woman.
What started as more of a game slowly turned into a serious search and rescue. These kids slowly began to understand just how terrible the situation was. So,they went throughout several neighborhoods. They were now on a mission to succeed.
The area of Sacramento where the group lived was quite large. And with bikes, they were limited to where they could go.But that didn't matter—they wanted to cover every inch hoping to find her.
