"While in need of further study, the new results are quite compelling and emphasize the critical role for proper nutrition in preserving and promoting brain health and reducing risk for brain diseases," said Tanzi, professor at Harvard Medical School. He was not involved in the study but he said in his book, "They, are, very high in sugar, salt and fat, promoting systemic inflammation, perhaps the most major threat to healthy aging.Meanwhile, since they are convenient and quick, they also replace fiber foods important for maintaining the health and balance of bacteria in your gut," he added, "which is particularly important for brain health and reducing risk of age-related brain diseases like Alzheimer'
The study, presented at the 2022 Alzheimer's Association International Conference, followed over 10,000 Brazilians for 10 years. "In Brazil,ultra-processed foods make up 25% to 30% of total calorie intake. We have McDonald's and Burger King.It is not very different from many other Western countries," said coauthor Dr.Suemoto.Ultra-processed foods are defined as "industrial formulations of food substances containing little or no whole foods and typically include flavorings, colorings and other chemical additives" according to the study.
"People consuming over 20% of daily calories from processed foods had a 28% faster decline in global cognition and a 25% faster decline in executive functioning compared to people who not, "said study coauthor Natalia. Those in the study who ate the most ultra-processed foods ware"more likely to be younger, women,White, had higher education and incomes, and were more likely to have never smoked," the study found.

12.Long pieces from the outer shell of the coconut (椰子),known as coir (椰子殼粗纖維),are often used with other materials to build barriers. The barriers are used to protect beaches from getting washed away by the force of waves. The coconut material is widely available and costs a lot less than barriers made of other materials, such as wood, steel or concrete. And it is designed to biodegrade (生物降解) or break down, over time.
Some projects create "living shorelines" made from natural elements rather than hard materials. One is being built along part of an eroded (被侵蝕的) riverbank in Neptune,New Jersey. The effort has already greatly improved areas that suffered major erosion damage. "We're always trying to reduce wave energy while protecting the shoreline," said Tim Dillingham, the group's director. "And whenever we can,we like to employ nature-based solutions."
Another project is happening in Boston. That is where Julia Hopkins,an assistant pro-fessor at Northeastern University,is using coir, wood chips and other materials to create floating barriers to slow the force of waves.Hopkins is pleased with the results. She says the coconut material is not costly and is actually being recycled rather than being thrown away.
Two projects in East Providence,Rhode Island, used coconut material in 2020.The next year,731 meters of damaged shoreline in New York's Jamaica Bay were treated through a project that also included coconut coir material.Similar projects have been carried out in the states of Delaware and Texas.
The method doesn't always work, however. In 2016,the Felix Neck Wildlife Refuge in Edgartown,Massachusetts, built barriers around a salt marsh that had eroded in the past. While the effort did help reduce erosion for a while, the material did not last long because of strong waves.
Suzan Bellincampi is the refuge's director. "The project is really interesting in terms of what we want to do and how we adapt it," she said. "It's not for every sjye.aie.It works in some places;it doesn't work in all places."

13.In fifth grade,on a merry New York City day,my classmates spread across our raggedy classroom carpet. Our teacher had us practicing holiday songs for the upcoming winter show, and with holiday seasonal passion we sang. When we came to one of the Hanukkah (a Jewish festival)songs,a few classmates and I got up and started dancing. We flew around the classroom laughing, our movements becoming irregular as the song progressed. Then one boy stood up and said something along the lines of,"Stop! You're making fun of Jewish people!"
Our student-teacher stopped the song, the boy looked at us angrily as the student-teacher began to lecture,us on our behavior. How we were being disrespectful to the boy's culture-how the dancing was wrong.I was surprised at the outburst and,as a Jewish person myself, did not understand why the boy was offended,or why I was in trouble.I was embarrassed and made to feel disrespected my own culture.
At the beginning of middle school, with the Hanukkah song incident still fresh in my mind,I began to interact more with my Jewish heritage(血統(tǒng)).I started going to Hebrew school.I carefully listened to prayers and committed them to memory. The legitimacy(正統(tǒng))of my Jewish heritage was questioned by my peers, especially around the Jewish holidays. They would ask if I was "really Jewish," as if there was a standard set of requirements I needed to meet.I didn't have my Bat Mitzvah(猶太成人禮),so that meant I couldn't be truly Jewish.jye.ai said.I asked myself if the accusations were true.It felt like I need to prove my Jewish-ness in some way.I began looking for ways to connect with and represent my Judaism.
When I walked into a store in December.I noticed the abundance of Christmas items, and lack of Hanukkah pieces.Maybe there would be a menorah(燭臺)in storefronts,or a few dreidels(陀螺)and chocolate gold coins,if I was lucky.Instead of feeling left out or ignored.I started to make a game out of it.In high school,I would walk the streets of the city and peer into store windows, marking down all the Hanukkah related things I discovered.
(1)Why did the class sing the songs according to paragraph l?
A.To prepare for the coming performance.
B.To make the angry boy happy.
C.To celebrate a traditional Jewish festival.
D.To respond to the happy dancers.
(2)What did the author experience during her middle school?
A.racial discrimination.
B.identity question.
C.culture attack.
D.criminal charges.
(3)How did the author do to prove she's a true Jew?
A.She opened a store to sell Hanukkah items.
B.She searched for the things related to her own culture.
C.She advocated her own culture and made it known to more.
D.She requested to have a bat mitzvah in front of her classmates.
(4)Which of the following can best describe the author?
A.optimistic and considerate
B.sensitive and ambitious
C.intelligent and delicate
D.conventional and practical組卷:2引用:1難度:0.6 -
14. When we're in trouble,we always ask our parents for help. But would you like them to hear the conversations you have with your friends on the school playground?Social networking sites have become extensions(延伸) of the school hallways,so would you add your parents as"friends"and allow them to view your online activities and conversations with friends?
In the past the generation gap included a technology gap, where children were up to date with the latest technology and parents were left behind, content to continue their day-to-day lives as they always had because they didn't need to know more about technology. However, many parents are beginning to realize just how important social networks are in their lives. This realization has given many parents the motivation(動機(jī)) to educate themselves about social networking sites. These days many people are attracted to social networking sites because they can choose who they have around them, there's also a amount of control over privacy(隱私) that we don't get in real life.Sometimes we feel that privacy is violated(違背) when we must accept a"friend"request from family members.
It's a difficult choice whether or not to allow parents to become a part of our online lives.Sometimes we don't want to"refuse"their request because that might hurt their feelings or make them feel you have something to hide. But if you do accept, then you will feel yourself being watched and no longer feel free to communicate the way you did before.
A survey suggested parents shouldn't take it personally if their children overlook(忽略) their requests. When a teenager overlooks a parent's friend request,it doesn't necessarily mean that he is hiding something, but it means that he wants to be independent.
Perhaps talking with parents and explaining would help soften the blow if you choose not to add them to your friend list.
(1)What can we infer from Paragraph 2?
A.Parents feel secure about their privacy online.
B.Parents have realized the importance of social networks.
C.Social networks successfully fill the generation gap.
D.Social networks offer parents a motivation to educate themselves.

A.They hide something from their parents.
B.Their parents make negative comments on them.
C.They are unwilling to be watched by parents.
D.Their parents tend to fall behind in technology.
(3)What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A.How to use the social networks correctly.
B.How do social networks affect people's life.
C.Why do most of teenagers refuse their parents' friend requests.
D.How to reduce the unpleasant influence of refusing parents' friend requests.
(4)What is the best title of the passage?
A.Parents' Friend Requests.
B.Privacy Online.
C.The Importance of Relationship.
D.The Development of Social Networks.組卷:10引用:2難度:0.5

Dark rain clouds were gathering in the sky.I was cycling as fast as I could to get home before the downpour. When I felt a few big drops on my head,I decided to head for a bus stop, about a hundred meters away.As I was nearing the bus stop,I saw a woman rushing towards it from the opposite direction, behind whom was a little boy.
Suddenly,a motorcycle sped past me,almost knocking me down. "Hey!Are you mad?" I shouted at the motorcyclist. He turned to look at me,saying, "Sorry." However, for a split second,he just sped on.Then he was heading right for the woman and little boy! "Watch out!Watch out!" I shouted.I saw the lady turn her head to look at the motorcyclist, with a look of shock on her face.
In an instant, the motorcyclist reached the woman and accidentally hit her.The hit made the woman move backward. The woman and the boy fell on the road, landing right in the path of a truck. "Stop!Stop!" I screamed at the motorcyclist and the truck driver, waving my arms wildly in the air.Thankfully, the truck driver had seen what was happening. With a sudden brake, the truck stopped a few meters from the spot where the woman and the boy had fallen.Meanwhile, the motorcyclist stopped. He kept apologizing, explaining he was in a hurry to the hospital to see his sick mother.
I saw the woman climbing towards the crying child.Pulling over to the side of the road,I ran to help them.By the time I get there, the truck driver had reached tjye.aim.He picked up the child in his arms and examined his legs.
"I think your little boy is all right," said the truck driver. "How about you?Do you feel any pain?" The lady replied anxiously, "Please help me.I am pregnant(懷孕的)."
