1.The survey by Nottingham Trent University found that 23 participants aged between 18 and 33 checked their phones about once every 10 minutes--up to 85 times a day.Scientists placed an app on test subjects' phones in order to track how often participants checked their screens, used an app, listened to music or checked the time. The study also showed people accessed their phones twice as often as they thought. It also found mobile use was typically confined to short bursts, with more than half of sessions lasting less than 30 seconds.
Dr Sally Andrews said, "We put an app on people's phones which measured how often they used their phones. As a result we managed to get an objective(客觀(guān)的) measure of people's smart phone use but we also asked them to give their own measurement. We found that their own perceived(覺(jué)察到) usage was often a lot lower than their usage in reality.People also checked their phones more in afternoon and evening than they did in the morning or at night time."
Users spent about one third of their day on their phones.
Now 56% of the population carry smart phones and this is predicted(被預(yù)測(cè)) to rise to 69%o of the population by 2019,according to figure(數(shù)字)s by Millennial Media research.

Instead of preparing for interviews,Mak spends most of her time drawing. "To me,drawing is like a language," she says. "If I don't know how to say something to you,I will draw it."
Mak,the creator of McDull, can also be called "the mother of McDull".This person who has always liked to dream in a simple world doesn't seem to grow up until she becomes a wife and still looks like a lovely girl. She was born for comics, for McDull.

3.What are you going to do if you are in a burning house? How will you escape?Do you know how to save yourself? Please read the following passage.
Escaping a fire is a serious matter.Knowing what to do during a fire can save your life.It is important to know the ways you can use and show them to everyone in the family, such as stairways and fire escapes, but not lifts.
From the lower floors of the buildings, escaping through windows is possible.Learn the best way of leaving by windows with the least chance of serious injury.
The second floor window is usually not very high from the ground. An average(平均高度的)person, hanging by the fingertips will have a drop of about six feet to the ground. It is about the height of an average man.Of course,it is safer to jump a short way than to stay in a burning building.
Windows are also useful when you are waiting for help.Be sure to keep the door closed.Or smoke and fire may be drawn into the room.Keep your head low at the window to be sure you get fresh air rather than smoke that may leak(滲)into the room.
On second or third floor, the best windows for escape are those that open onto a roof. From the roof a person can drop to the ground more safely.
Dropping onto cement(水泥)might end in injury.Bushes(灌木叢)and grass can help to break a fall.

6.Dear Daniel,
I am a high school student.People always stress how important this stage in life is.I want to get good grades, but I always fail the exams. It makes me so worried. What should I do?
Fu JiliangDear Fu Jiliang,
I think you are probably working hard, but I wonder if you know what you're working for.A common complaint in math classes is "I will never use this kind of math in daily life." It's kind of true!I haven't used algebra in at least ten years.Anything that seems useless or boring will be difficult to study.
Ask yourself some questions:What are you interested in?The boring things you study today give you basic knowledge that will help you understand the things you love.
Next, what are your personal goals for yourself and your life? Why do you want good grades? What do you want to do in five years?Ten years?
I usually believe that my readers want to go to college, get good jobs and have financial security (經(jīng)濟(jì)保障) for themselves and their families.Do you want these things? If you want these things,do you know what you want to study and what kind of job you want to have? What kind of lifestyle?
If you don't have clear answers to those questions, you need to figure them out.
Hopefully, you will find some reasons to focus and improve in school if you can't figure them out,you need to prepare yourself mentally and emotionally.Happiness is about more than a test score.Don't hate yourself for the next 60 years because of a low score.
Daniel
