The 2019 Louisa Gross Horwitz Prize for Biology or Biochemistry The Louisa Gross Horwitz Prize was started under the will of S.Gross Horwitz and was named after her mother.Louisa Gross Horwitz was the daughter of Dr.Samuel David Gross （1805-1884），a famous doctor of Philadelphia and author of the excellent Systems of Surgery，who served as President of the American Medical Association.
   Each year since its starting in 1967，the Louisa Gross Horwitz Prize has been given by Columbia University for excellent basic research in the fields of biology or biochemistry.The purpose of this award is to honor a scientific researcher or group of researchers whose contributions to knowledge in either of these fields are considered worthy of special recognition.
   The Prize consists of an honorarium and a citation （酬金和表彰） which are given at a special presentation event.Unless otherwise introduced by the Prize Committee，the Prize is given yearly.
   Qualifications for the award
   The Prize Committee recognizes no geographical limitation.The Prize may be given to a person or a group.When the Prize is given to a group，the honorarium will be divided among the winners，but each member will receive a citation.Preference will be given to those who have achieved in the recent past.
