①While history has shown that the economic development is sometimes achieved at the cost of environmental damage,Shenzhen is trying to tell a different story.
②Shenzhen has been developing quickly in recent years. At the same time, the city's air quality has kept improving. In 2019,the average concentration(濃度) of PM2.5 was 24 μg/m3,the lowest level since the monitoring system started in 2006.The city has set a goal to lower the index to less than 20 μg/m3 by 2025 and reach a world-leading level by 2035.
③One of the most effective ways to curb air pollution is to encourage the use of electric vehicles, especially in public transport, across the city.At the end of 2017,Shenzhen became the world's first city to make all its public buses, about 16,400 of them, run on electricity.A year later, more than 21,000 taxis in the city were almost all replaced by electric cars.
④When the sky becomes clearer, the city has also made great progress in solving its water pollution. All 159 black and smelly water bodies and 1,467 small ones have been fully recovered.Five major rivers that run through the city have met national water standards(標(biāo)準(zhǔn)).
⑤Maozhou River, one of the most heavily polluted rivers in Shenzhen, started to meet the lowest national standard for qualified(合格的) surface water in November 2019.The standard is that the water can be used for agriculture or sightseeing. This was the best level the river had achieved since 1992.
⑥As a result,Chinese white dolphins and jellyfish have been seen to return to the Shenzhen Bay.And the number of many animals in and along the river has increased year by year.

  • 1.According to a recent report, about 15% of the people in the UK are members of gyms. But are they more likely to be fit?
A study found that gym members were 14 times more active than people who didn't belong to any health club.Gym members did six hours more exercise a week, and this activity did make them fitter than non- gym members. They also spent less time sitting down every day than non- gym members. The results were the same for men and women.
The study included 405 people between the ages of 30 and 64,and the main characteristics of those who were gym members were the same as those who were not. "But gym members did more training than non-gym members," said the lead author,Elizabeth Schroeder of the University of Illinois. While it might seem clear that gym members exercise more and are healthier than non-gym members,Schroeder says this has not been directly shown before. However, the study is only designed to show a tie between gym membership and more exercise. It may be that active people like to join gyms.In the study, people who exercised as much as gym members were also in good health.
You can get the same benefits wherever you exercise. This study shows a gym membership can make you do more exercise, but other research shows that exercising outside has other help.Outdoor activity can make you feel happy about life, especially if you run through a forest.

  • 2.Is it possible to have a diet that s both healthy and friendly to our planet? Here are answers to your eco-friendly food questions.
Does what I eat influence climate change?
Yes.The world's food system is responsible for about one quarter of the planet -- warming greenhouse gases that humans produce each year. That includes raising and harvesting all the plants, animals, and animal products we eat,as well as processing, packaging, and shipping food to markets all over the world.
Which foods have the largest influence?
In general, beef and lamb have the biggest climate footprint per gram of protein while plant- based foods like beans, rice, corn and wheat have the smallest influence.Pork, chicken, eggs are somewhere in the middle.
Is there a simple food choice I can make?
Studies have shown that people who eat a meat-heavy diet can reduce their food- related footprint by one third or more by moving to a vegan diet- no meat, dairy,or eggs.If you don't want to go that far, just eat less meat.
Can I really make a difference to our planet
We need more food to feed the world's growing population. One person alone can make only a tiny djye.aiference.If many people make changes to their diets, that will start to add up.It will make a greater difference if the world's heaviest meat eaters make some changes to their diets.
