1.These national parks, classified as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, protect and preserve some of the world's most beautiful natural wonders.
Wadi Rum Protected Area,Jordan
Known as Valley of the Moon,Wadi Rum is located in the south of Jordan,a little more than 60 miles south of the ancient city of Petra. As a desert landscape,it's been the location for many space films. It's worth spending some time overnight here-traditional Bedouin camps around the desert.
Fiordland National Park,New Zealand
A large part of this national park is uninhabited (無人居住的) and only accessible by boat or hiking trail. It's filled with snow-capped mountains, and visitors might see fur seals, bottlenose dolphins and possibly even penguins.
Cairngorms National Park,Scotland
In the spring and summer months,it's best to explore this part of Scotland's eastern Highlands by foot but in wintertime, skis take over. It's the largest park in the UK-twice as big as the Lake District National Park. With nine national nature reserves and three rivers,it doesn't have a shortage of local wildlife. For the best places to bed down nearby,we suggest art-filled The Fife Arms and Killliehuntly Farmhouse and Cottages.
Sagarmatha National Park,Nepal
Home to Mount Everest-the highest mountain in the world at 29,032 ft-Sagarmatha National Park in Nepal is where many hikers kick-start their lifetime goal of climbing from Everest's Base Camp. The park is also home to several rare animal species. It's an adventurer's paradise(天堂)for those looking for less of hiking.

2.Saving a drowning woman is all in a day's work for two boys who had already collected their swimming and lifesaving merit badges (獎?wù)拢?
A June heavy storm hit Columbia in Missouri with little warning, causing floodwaters from rivers to burst their banks and overflow zones to turn into ponds.
When 15-year-old Dominic Viet and 16-year-old Joseph Diener passed a basketball court that had turned into a pool, they heard the frantic shouting of a young woman desperately trying to keep her head above water under the force of a current (水流).The boys had seen the woman swimming with a friend there before, but it was now obvious that she was drowning.
"The first thing that came into my mind was to get into the water," Dominic recalled. "We didn't have time to think. Her head was barely above the water and we could see her sinking more down every second. We didn't think about the risks. We had to get her out."
Heroes will do as heroes do,and pulling her up onto their shoulders,Dominic and Joseph got her ashore, where emergency services arriving at someone else's call performed first aid and rushed her to the hospital.
The fire department honored the two boys with a "Citizen Life Safety Award".Assistant Fire Chief Jerry Jenkins described the boys' act as heroic and courageous. He added, "Floodwaters are no conditions to be swimming in.There can be waste water runoff, loose chemicals, downed power lines charging the current with electricity,or pieces of wood, metal,or brick, etc."
(1)What does the underlined word "frantic" in paragraph 3 probably mean?

3.In the far,far future, bicycles and perhaps skates may be run by jet power, and a new thing to ride may be a small flying saucer(飛碟).Imagine a race between them!
There may be telepathy helmets(心靈感應(yīng)頭盔)that send thought waves from your brain to that of your friend miles away. You just think a thought and your friend knows it!You can have secrets with each other that nobody else can turn in on!
What about the food of the future?Scientists think that much of it will be artificial-made in factories from such surprising things as coal, limestone, air and water. The artificial food will be healthful because all the things that you need to live a long and healthy life will be put into it.
The future hospitals will probably have "body banks" that can give you almost any new part you need to keep on living.People of the future may live to be a lot older than 100 years.
What about highways of the future?Well,a very small child probably will be able to drive a car.Electric signals will hold each car on the right road to get wherever the "driver" wants to go.And it probably will be impossible for cars to crash together.Controls that won't even have to be touched will make all speeding cars miss each other or will put on the brakes.Driving cars will be as safe as being at home.
But maybe the most wonderful surprise in the future will be weather control.Cities may have giant plastic domes(圓頂罩)over them to keep out snow, rain,or storms. When you plan a picnic in a park, you won't have to worry about rain.It will rain only when the "weatherman" thinks it is necessary to fresh the air inside the city. All other days will be fair and warm.
The future should be a wonderful time in which to live and the time we are living in now is also a wonderful future to the people who lived 100 years ago.
(1)How will you probably talk with each other in the future according to paragraph 2?
A.With a safety helmet.

When I was a boy,I had the craziest bus ride to school everyday.First I had to get up early, wolf down my breakfast, and walk across the shaky and swinging wooden bridge that crossed the river between our house and the main road. Then I stood and waited for the bus to arrive. When it got there I climbed in.I was always one of the first ones on the bus. Then even though the bus was only 4 miles from school,I started a ride that would last more than 45 minutes.
First, the bus went in the opposite direction for 6 miles, parked and waited for another bus to transfer kids onto it.Then it started back, but instead of going straight to my school,it started up a long and winding mountain road pausing at every house to pick up more kids. The road swirled around the mountain and back down with the bus getting fuller, louder, and noisier with each stop. Finally,it arrived at the high school to drop off the older kids before heading on to my grade school. But even then it didn't go straight there but instead headed down another rocky dirt road that was full of potholes to pick up even more children.I usually got to the school stressed, tired, and just before the first class bell rang.
Thankfully, the ride home was different.During it the last kids picked up became the first kids dropped off.But I was different.Since my house was along the way,I got dropped off after just 10 minutes or so.I remember I would literally run across that shaky old bridge because I was so happy to be home again.
