  • 4.At this very moment around the world, athletes are stepping into freezing cold chambers(室).Why on earth are they doing this?Because it's supposed to help them feel better. The treatment is called Whole-body Cryotherapy.
Athletes such as basketball star LeBron James, soccer great Cristiano Ronaldo have all tried it.The therapy works like this. You take off everything except underwears. Then you put on warn socks and gloves and step into a chamber that looks sort of like a shower.Once you're locked in,air cooled to below -200℉ (-129℃) fills the chamber and you stay in for two to three minutes.
Supporters believe the freezing air helps muscles recover faster and reduces body pain. After his first cryotherapy sessions,Phil MacKenzie,a professional rugby player, felt noticeably better. He told Scientific American,"I felt refreshed right away.My sleep was better." Soon,he was using the chamber four times a week. Those who promote cryotherapy make all sorts of wild claims about its effects, such as increasing focus, improving skin tone(膚色),slowing aging and much more.
Is there any evidence to back up these incredible claims? No.Several small scientific studies have looked at whether the therapy can improve muscle recovery after exercise, with encouraging results. But there just isn't enough evidence to show that the therapy works. The benefits some people experience may just be the placebo(安慰劑)effect. That's when a patient's expectation that a treatment will work leads to an improvement.
The US Food & Drug Adninistration has actually issued a warning about whole-body cryotherapy. It cautions that the liquid nitrogen (N2) used to cool the chamber may make it difficult to breathe.Frostbite is another potential risk, which is why participants wear gloves and socks.

(1)What is the function of Paragraph 2?

    A.To introduce the text's topic.
    B.To encourage deeper thinking.
    C.To provide detailed information.
    D.To make an objective comparison.
(2)What can be inferred about whole-body cryotherapy?

A.It enjoys wide popularity among the public.
B.It lacks adequate proofs for its benefits.
C.It may cause various deadly side effects.
D.It has been widely used among athletes.
(3)What might be the real reason for people feeling better after cryotherapy?

    A.Psychological influence.
    B.Improved focus.

    D.Recovered skin.
(4)What is the author's attitude towards whole-body cryotherapy?

  • 5.Basically,a phone interview is the first step in the hiring process,as it gives the employer a glance of your background, personality, and overall fit for the position. (1)

       1.Tell Me About Yourself
More often than not,an interviewer will begin with "tell me about yourself." (2)
You don't want to sound too rehearsed(排練好的),but putting down a few notes on your background can help make this a much easier question to respond to.
       2.Prepare for Behavioral Questions
       (3)
While they aren't always asked on a phone interview, they can tell the interviewer a bit more about your personality without having to meet you in person.
These questions, such as "tell me about a time you demonstrated leadership" are fairly common, and also easy to prepare for in advance.Take a few minutes to write down bullet points on a time you were a leader or overcame a difficulty. (4)
Therefore, writing down a few ideas in advance can only help get those creative juices flowing for when some unexpected questions are asked.
       3.Prepare to Explain Employment Gaps
Some individuals have employment gaps in their resume(簡歷).For most, this relates to college and school breaks, etc. (5)
Thinking about these gaps beforehand gives you the advantage in terms of being prepared for the line of questioning.
Remember that a phone interview may be the most important part,as it's going to solidify(鞏固) a good first impression that will help carry you throughout the rest of the process.

    A.Behavioral questions are huge.
B.However, these gaps should be avoided if possible.
C.You never know what type of question will be asked.
D.These questions need you to describe your preparation for the target job.
E.But sometimes this means explaining them to avoid making you look bad.
F.Preparing for it requires you to describe your goals that match the position.
G.With that in mind, you can prepare some well-thought-out answers for the commonly asked questions.

Another disappointing day was passing, and he was driving his beat-up old car home.He was out all day looking for a job.It was getting dark and light snow was coming down,so he almost didn't see the old lady standing on the side of the road.It was clear that she needed jye.ailp.He pulled up in front of her obviously brand new and expensive car and got out.
While nobody had stopped to help for the last hour and there was a smile on his face, she was worried when he approached jye.air.He didn't look safe.He looked poor and hungry.
He could see she was frightened, standing out there in the cold.He said, "I'm here to help you,Ma'am.Why don't you wait in your car to keep warm?My name is Bryan."
A tire was flat.Bryan fetched tools from his own car to change the tire. But he had to get dirty and his hands hurt.As he was tightening her car's nuts(螺母),she rolled down the window, said thanks and asked him how much she owed him.Any amount would have been all right with her.She had already imagined all the awful things that could have happened without his help.
Bryan never thought twice about the money. He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone who needed help, she could give that person the assistance they needed. He waited until she started her car and drove off.It had been a cold and depressing day,but he felt good as he headed for home.
Soon the lady saw a small restaurant. She went in to grab a bite to eat and warm up before she made the last leg of her trip home. The waitress came over with a sweet smile and brought a clean towel to wipe her wet hair. The lady noticed the waitress was nearly eight months pregnant(懷孕的).Although the waitress looked tired and walked painfully due to the pregnancy, she still served the lady.
