12.I got this strange idea in the eighth grade. To run for student president is not a surprising decision for most outgoing, popular people. But I was neither. In fact I liked daydreaming, reading books that were not on the required list, and sitting at the table at the far corner of the dining hall with the only two friends I had,Denise and Janice. What happened within two months led me to discover the secret method for succeeding.
My classmate,Claire encouraged me to run against her for student president.Denise decided that we should form a mastermind group (智囊團(tuán)) to get me selected. We met every day, right after school, reviewing a list of students. We brainstormed reasons why students might want to choose me,in their own interests for me or against Claire.
We created "cascades",a word that we learned from Denise's sister. It meant that we looked for students who were most likely to influence other students. Those are the people that one of us spoke to first. To be honest,my little success is a big surprise to the three of us.
That's how I got my first taste of the power of what's now called collective intelligence (集體智慧).With the right model for how we meet,we are better together than apart.
When a group decides to support each other by meeting often and following agreed upon rules, unusual things happen. We are likely to bring out the best in each other,as thousands have learned around the world through their mastermind groups.A single person becomes a large team.We become happier and higher-performing with and for each other. It is never too late for you to start your own mastermind group of no more than seven members around a same interest — which will develop into something different and more meaningful over the years.

(2)What's the use of cascades?
A.Helping learn from others.
B.Helping hand out newspapers.
C.Helping have public activities.
D.Helping look for influential people.
(3)What does the author want to express in the last paragraph?
A.Remember to support others.
B.Do something different and meaningful.
C.Consider meeting up with friends often.
D.Pay more attention to collective intelligence.
(4)What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Useful ways to find good friends
B.Clever ways to get support from others
C.Surest way to greater success and friendship
D.Special methods for being student president組卷:0引用:1難度:0.3 -
13.Do you want to have broader experiences learning about the world and taste the bitterness(苦) and sweetness life has to offer? If you say "yes" without thinking, this should inspire you.I must agree that overseas studying is becoming a hot topic in our globally-connected(全球聯(lián)通的) world. To be honest with you,as one of the students who are studying in a foreign country,Vietnam, based on my four years' international school experiences so far,I highly recommend overseas studying.
Believe it or not,the best decision that I have ever made so far in my life is studying abroad. When I first came to Vietnam,I wrote to ask my dad to let me go back to South Korea because everything felt uncomfortable and I wasn't used to the environment. When I had a hard time adapting(適應(yīng)) to the new environment,I missed my friends and grandparents. But as I started to think more deeply about my future,I started to believe from the bottom of my heart that overseas studying is worth it.
I especially love the international school teaching style. In my country,I basically just had to memorize the whole book to get a perfect score (cramming education(填鴨式教育)),while in this international school,I could think outside of the box and create PPT,posters or videos to show my learning. With so many unique programs,it will be easy to find a good fit for your personality and goals.
The value of overseas studying experience can't be the same as that of local experience.Think about it this way,do you really want to stay and study in your local school 24/7/365 and see the same culture for 18 years of your WHOLE LIFE?I guess nobody wants that.I understand that overseas studying costs an arm and a leg,but if you can afford it,please go for it.The price is WORTH IT.

D.By fitting the school's teaching style.
(3)What does the author think about education in Vietnam?
A.Out of date.
B.Wonderful.
C.Traditional.
D.Advanced.
(4)What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.It's worth trying overseas education.
B.It's OK to accept the same culture in one's life.
