Rex watched the dust around his bare feet as he walked up the path from the river in the summer sunshine.As he came within view of the farmhouse，he saw his mother working in the vegetable garden.She was a hard worker，but when she had a moment to spare，she spent it on her little flower garden in the front yard.
Suddenly，something in the front yard caught Rex's attention.His mother jumped up from the vegetable patch （小塊土地） and ran towards her flowers. "Get out of here，you old turkeys!" There，in her flower garden，a flock of turkeys ruined the flowers.Rex ran to help his mother，shooing （趕走） them back to Mr.Blake's farm.
"Go back home!" Rex's mother shouted，her face red.The turkeys waddled single file（一路縱隊搖擺行走），ruining every plant in their path. "Rex，chase those turkeys back to where they belong.Then we will prepare dinner for you and your father." She sadly looked at the ruined flowers.
Rex quickly drove the turkeys back down the road，yelling.As the turkeys entered Mr.Blake's yard，Rex grabbed a rock lying on the ground and threw the rock with all his strength to give them a good scare.As a result，Rex found he killed the largest of Mr.Blake's turkeys.
What was he going to do？Mr.Blake would be very angry.He felt frightened the moment he thought of Mr.Blake's angry face.Looking around，he realized no one had seen him throw the rock.He did not have the courage to face Mr.Blake.Without another thought，Rex grabbed the dead turkey and hid it in the busjye.ais.He turned and ran home as fast as he could，hoping that no one saw the truth.
His mother praised him for his quick work with the turkeys，not noticing the worry in Rex's heart.As the worry welled inside him，tears filled his eyes.
"What's wrong？" his mother asked.
He ran to her arms，sobbing as he told her the whole story，complete with his fear of Mr.Blake's anger.
