2.When I was young,my grandparents bought a second home in Arkansas and would bring me there every single summer.Their home was located on a 3 acre patch(小片)of land at the end of a stony road through a small forest. There were yards around the house and I would spend a lot of time outside there following my grandfather while he did yard work.Down the road in the valley was Bull Shoals Lake, the "swimming hole" where we would swim almost every afternoon.
I always remember my grandparents calling me over to the window when a deer family was in the yard or a few hummingbirds(蜂鳥)were at the feeders(取食槽)so that I could watch them.My grandfather took the time to teach me the names of all the different trees in the yard.I would search around in the yard by myself sometimes to look for interesting rocks to add to my collection, and if I was lucky I would find a turtle(烏龜).If I did find a turtle I would go get my grandfather so that he could pick it up and put it in the kiddy pool for me to observe for a few minutes.I was always amazed by these creatures. After I finished observing the turtle,my grandfather would pick it back up and return it to the bush I found it in.I would watch in amazement as it slowly stuck its legs out and crawled back under.
I always felt very much at peace at my grandparents' home.It was quiet and full of interesting natural things I had never seen before.Whenever I get lost in the lights and noises in this forest of cement(水泥)high—rises, the memories will calm me down and make me smile.

3.Over a decade ago, when Francesco Galietti had to travel from Rome(羅馬)to Milan (米蘭)for work,he used to fly the nearly 400-mile distance.Today,he takes the train.
Galietti,CEO of a Rome-based company,is not alone.Over two thirds of people traveling between Rome and Milan now take the train. It takes as little as 2 hours and 49 minutes. And,of course, the train stations are in the city center,so there's no need to turn up long before your train-the doors close two minutes before departure. "Think about a half-hour drive to Rome's Fiumicino Airport, checking in 90 minutes before flying,an hour in the air and then landing outside Linate Airport of Milan, the closest, and then about 20 minutes' drive into town-well,I'd prefer not to bother so much," said Galietti.
Today's high-speed railway system is a far cry from the railway network of Italy's past, when trains were slow, outdated and usually late. Now Italy is the only country in the world to have two high-speed train operators.Trenitalia, the state operator, has its Frecce trains running roughly in a T-shape from the north to the south across the country.Meanwhile,Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori,a private company which runs its Italo trains, covers 54 cities a day.Italy is also home to the world's first high-speed freight(貨運)service.
Besides the above reasons, natural scientists think it "correct" to choose trains. "I feel it a duty-the train is one of the most reliable(可靠的)ways to reduce your carbon footprint," said Carlo Barbante, the director of the Institute of Polar Sciences in Venice.
These are why Alitalia,Italy's national airline, was killed. As Alitalia flights took off for the last time on October 14.jye.ai two leading competitors-the Frecce and Italo trains-are going from strength to strength.
(1)Why does Galietti choose not to fly to Milan?
A.He wants to cut down expenses.
B.He prefers to try something new.
C.It takes twice the time of a train trip.
D.It is inconvenient in the process.
(2)What's the main difference between Frecce and Italo trains?
A.Types of passengers.
B.Their operators.
C.Types of business.
D.Their speeds.
(3)From what point do scientists think it "correct" to choose trains?
A.Environmental protection.
B.The reliable operation.
C.Reduction of labor force.
D.The future development.
(4)What is the purpose of the text?
A.To express sadness for Alitalia.
B.To advertise for the high-speed trains.
C.To analyze why trains win today's market.
D.To warn other walks of life about future changes.組卷:10引用:1難度:0.5 -
4.The Oceanix project, started by designers, architects(建筑師)and engineers from different countries, has taken an important step forward.Last month, they signed an agreement with Busan(釜山),the South Korean city,to host the first of its floating neighborhoods off South Korea's coast. The planned "floating city" could eventually accommodate 10,000 people, offering coastal areas a solution to the threat of the rising sea levels.
The neighborhoods will be set on floating platforms, each of which houses 300 people in buildings up to seven stories high. They can be arranged into larger networks, connected via walkways and bicycle paths;in theory, they can join to form a wider 10,000-people Oceanix City, which has everything from restaurants and co-working spaces to urban farms and entertaining facilities.
According to the design, the neighborhoods are "self-supporting":they are able to produce their own food and energy with "zero waste." They will use wind and solar energy, and grow bamboo for the construction of new buildings.Fresh water will be produced on the platforms, too, with rain water collected, stored and treated.
South Korea's southern coastline, where Busan is located, has experienced worse flood damage than anywhere else in Korea in the past decade. It is warned that the city's famous Haeundae Beach could disappear by 2030.
According to the agreement, the first Oceanix neighborhood in Busan will complete, with people living in it,by 2025.Busan's mayor Park Heong-joon welcomed the agreement, saying, "We need a new vision where it is possible for people, nature and technology to co-exist."
The director of the project,Maimunah Sharif, described Busan as the "ideal" location for the project. He added, "Instead of fighting with water, let us learn to live in harmony with it."
