2.Three years ago,I moved into my apartment. It was very nice.Although it was a little more expensive than most apartments,it was worth the price.About 95% of my neighbors were old people,so it was pretty quiet.
In the past year,my apartment has turned 180 degrees.Parents have rented the apartments here for their college-aged kids, which has totally changed the environment of the neighborhood. What used to be an almost"library quiet"place after about 9:00pm,is now very noisy.I am now awakened by the noise at all hours of the night.Sometimes, there are drunken (醉的) college kids who are shouting and crying.Sports cars are always coming and going in the parking lot.The noise from the parking lot easily comes into my apartment.Sometimes,a neighbor's dog barks between 3am and 5am.I used to get a good sleep of eight hours each night. Now I am always awakened at least 3-4 times a night. Most of that usually occurs around the very late hours of 2-4am.For those of us who have to get up early in the morning, that's a real pain.
I used to love weekends, but now I dread them, because I know my apartment will be filled with drunken and loud-speaking college-aged kids on weekends. They may play loud music on weekends.Last night,I was awakened by a girl shouting at a guy in the parking lot repeatedly.I can't stand the living environment any more. And there is no good way to deal with these bad neighbors,so I am ready to move. However,I am now out of work.I can't afford to move into another apartment until I find a job.

B.Find a cheaper apartment.
C.Move out of his apartment at once.

3.According to a new study published in the journal Nature, earthquakes in the Himalaya can increase the influence of floods (洪水) downstream, probably affecting millions of people. The findings could help researchers improve flood risk maps for the Ganga Plain,an area covering parts of India,Nepal and Pakistan. They could also help better understand the long-term influence of earthquakes in the area.
As we all know, earthquakes may cause huge landslides (滑坡).For the first time, scientists at the University of Edinburgh have studied the path of rocks washed down from the Himalayan Mountains onto the Ganga Plain. They found that large landslides in the southern part of the Himalaya are more likely to increase flood risk than those in the high mountains further north.Rocks in the south are extremely hard and travel only a short distance-less than 20 km-to reach the Ganga Plain. This means a lot of hard rocks reach the Ganga Plain and can build up in rivers, changing the natural path of the water, the team says.Rocks from more northerly areas of the Himalaya are softer, and the team found they often travel at least 100 km to reach the Ganga Plain. These rocks are gradually broken down into sand and finally spread widely as they travel downstream.
The research, published in the journal Nature, was supported by the Natural Environment Research Council.Elizabeth Dingle,PhD student in the University of Edinburgh's School of GeoSciences, led the study."Our findings help to explain how events in the Himalaya can have great effects on rivers downstream and on the people who live there.Knowing where landslides take place in the mountains could help us foresee how rivers on the Ganga Plain will be affected,"she said.
(1)What does the new study find?
A.How earthquakes in the Himalaya can increase the flood risk downstream.
B.Whether humans can finish flood risk maps for the Ganga Plain.
C.Whether earthquakes in the Himalaya can cause floods downstream.
D.How earthquakes happen in the Himalaya.
(2)What can we learn from Paragraph 2?
A.Landslides will produce a lot of dangerous hard rocks.
B.Rocks from the Himalaya can be easily broken down into sand.
C.Rocks from the northern Himalaya raise the flood risk downstream.
D.Hard rocks from the Himalaya raise the flood risk downstream.
(3)What does the underlined word"foresee"in the last paragraph most probably mean?
A.Forecast.
B.Check.
C.Control.
D.Change.
(4)What does Elizabeth Dingle think of the new study?
A.Meaningless.
B.Helpful.
C.Interesting.
D.Surprising.組卷:13引用:1難度:0.5
