    National Apple Harvest (收獲)Festival
The National Apple Harvest Festival is held during the first two weekends in Arendtsville,Pennsylvania in October each year.It should be on the list of top choice for people who want to take part in one of America's most famous traditions:apple picking.Festival-goers can drink fresh-pressed apple juice, try their luck at square-dancing and listen to live music in this tiny town just outside of Gettysburg.

  • 2.For almost two months until now,I have called Leuven home. The more time I spend here, the more I come to realize how wonderful this city truly is.
I have friends who study abroad in much larger cities-Barcelona,London,Edinburgh.It seems that people love going to large cities for their study-abroad experiences. So it's not strange that people often asked me the same question,
"What made you decide to go to Leuven?"
I chose to come to Leuven for a very good reason.I can live in a central location (位置).Brussels is a 20-minute train ride away,Paris a 4-hour bus ride away,Amsterdam a 3-hour bus ride away, and Germany and Luxembourg are right next door.I love traveling,so such a location means a lot to me.
If I could describe my experience here so far in one word,it would be"authentic (真實(shí)的)".I feel like I have become a true citizen of Leuven.I discovered my favorite park to take walks and run in,I study at our library that looks similar to Hogwarts every week,I buy fresh vegetables at the weekend markets, and I even found my favorite cookie shop.I no longer feel like an outsider here.I can get anywhere without having to use Maps on my phone.Last week, even a few locals came up to me to ask for directions in Dutch. Each day, when I step out of my door,I discover hidden beauty,a new coffee shop to take a rest,or even quiet neighborhoods with beautiful streets.I couldn't ask for a better experience.
Leuven gives you the best of both worlds. The city is small enough so that you can bike or walk anywhere, but it is also large enough so that you can come across new parts to explore each day.If you want to spend some time in the countryside,it's only a 20-minute walk away.If you want to experience the nightlife, all you have to do is walk to the city center.

(1)Why did the author go to Leuven?

A.Because Leuven allows the author to travel easily.
B.Because Leuven has many places for traveling.
C.Because Leuven is a very small city.
D.Because Leuven has great bus rides.
(2)What did the author most probably realize after living in Leuven for some time?

A.It is not hard to get used to the life there.
    B.People there are quite warm-hearted.
C.Life in Leuven is like a dream.
D.It's very easy to get lost there.
(3)What does the author like doing in Leuven?

    A.Shopping in the city center.
    B.Staying in a quiet neighborhood.
C.Studying at a library most of the time.
D.Seeing around and experiencing life there.
(4)What is the text mainly about?

A.The author's reasons for going to Leuven.
    B.The author's study-abroad life in Leuven.
    C.Why people should visit Leuven.
D.What people can do in Leuven.

  • 3.If you want to spend a vacation away from home,it's important to prepare well for it.But how?Read on.
If you are leaving children or your husband/wife at home, make sure they have everything they might need from you while you're away.Freeze a few favorite dishes so that they can taste your cooking while you're away.Leave a photo of yourself with little children, who will be happy to see your face each day.Leave instructions with the children's caregiver for everything from snacks to bedtime habits.
Always let your family know where you will be.Give them flight numbers, hotel names and addresses,as well as a schedule of your activities.Plan for a way for them to reach you when necessary.Make sure they have the phone numbers for the places you're staying at as a backup (備用) to your cell phone number. If you will be hiking or camping, schedule regular check-in time for calling your family.
Set up payment for bills that need to be paid while you're away. The last thing you want to face when you come home is a disconnection notice or an unexpected late fee. Most bills can be scheduled online for payment. If you cannot do it,pay the bill early.
Clean out the refrigerator.Toss out the food that was left over as well as any items that will expire (過期)before you return.Keep the vegetables for at least one or two meals in the refrigerator so that you won't have to go on a last-minute shopping trip as soon as you get home.
Buy timers for three or four lights throughout the house and set them to go off at different time. This will help the house look as if there were people in it while you're away. You should also plan for a friend or neighbor to cut the grass if you will be away for a long period of time.Thieves are likely to break into your house if it looks uncared for.

(1)What are you advised to do if you leave your family at home for a vacation?

A.To teach them to take care of themselves.
B.To give them instructions while you're away.
