      In 2011，a big earthquake hit Fukushima，Japan.The quake caused a tsunami （海嘯）.A nuclear power station was broken in the tsunami and radiation （放射物） came out.Scientists used lots of water to cool the machines.But the water carried radiation.Radiation can cause lots of diseases，such as cancer.It can even change human DNA.Japan has made huge tanks to keep the harmful water away from people.But the tanks are expensive and take up a lot of room.That's why Japan wants to dump the water into the sea.
      Japan says it will clean the wastewater before dumping it.However，not all of the radiation can be taken out.It is still harmful to humans.
      The wastewater will first pollute the sea around Japan and its neighboring countries，such as China and South Korea.It will go to most of the Pacific Ocean in 57 days.And in three years，it will reach the US and Canada.The sea takes up 71% of Earth's surface.So the wastewater will go to most parts of the world.The radiation could stay in the sea for thousands of years!
