  • 2.I loved to play sports.I dreamed of being a star athlete in high school and possibly swimming in college. However,it all changed one winter morning when I was playing a basketball game for my rural league team.
I was having a pretty good game. But then I remember falling and screaming for help.I didn't know what was wrong with me.I looked at my leg and it was twisted in the opposite direction as if I broke it.My coaches and mom both ran over to me but they didn't even know what it was.I was taken to the hospital in an ambulance where I was diagnosed with a dislocated patella( 膝蓋骨脫臼).
My patella was not put back into place for a few hours because the doctors needed to make sure nothing else was damaged. For a 12-year-old,it was a lot to take.I kept asking different questions, like how does this heal? Will I need surgery?Later that night.I headed home later with some medicine to relieve my pain and an appointment to see an orthopedist(骨科醫(yī)生).
My first sigh of relief was when I heard that I did not need surgery. My doctors prescribed 6 weeks of physical therapy.I told myself that this is how i would heal and that, soon enough,I would be playing sports again.
I went back to school. At first I thought I would have trouble paying attention because I still had pain and discomfort. But I managed to deal with it.I was asked multiple times about what happened. It's never easy to explain, especially when you don't know exactly what caused the injury to happen.Plus, when you're only in middle school, the other kids don't really understand what you're talking about.
Through my many doctors' visits,I learned that my injury was not a result of my activjye.aiy.It was the way my own body was built that caused my patella to dislocate.I had no idea there could be so many things wrong! But I kept going and eventually I was back to playing sports with a brace on.

  • 3.I came home raging with anger.Once again I had been asked to do "just one more thing." My boss was leaving the company and the president wanted to know if I was interested in taking over the office. The opportunity sounded great- except I would have no additional help, would receive minimal compensation and would be left in a position at a company that had no upward mobility. My poor husband asked what I wanted to do.At first I considered our financial responsibilities. Then I realized I could not take the job;I was not going to settle for a partially rewarding life.I believed my husband and I could make it work.
After giving it much thought.I decided to finally study one of my personal passions:architecture. The only accredited schools were located across the state,so for the first semester,I drove three hours each way twice a week. The stress at home and the struggles in school began taking a physical toll on me.At the end of the first semester I was ready to quit, but I knew this was my chance. So I found a relative who lived halfway between home and school who offered me a place to stay during the week.
In my personal life.I discovered that many of the women in my family were supportive because they did not follow their own desired career paths. My grandmother never went to college because she became a mother, and my mother only went for a shorter degree because she chose to start a family as well.My husband's family was disappointed that my schooling would push any decision to have grandchildren into our 30s,but my husband was supportive and never apologized for my choice.
I will finish my Master s degree in December.Instead of dreading work,I get up each day excited about moving forward.I know there will be days when I still don't want to get out of bed so early, but I am proud of what I am doing and am so glad I decided to take a chance on my future.

    (1)How is the boss?

    A.Confident.
    B.Friendly.

    B.Giving relief to.
    C.Making improvements on.
    D.Bringing satisfaction to.
(3)What can we learn about the women in the author's family?

B.They did a good job in keeping the family.

Later in the kitchen at home,as I cooked our meal,my daughter Betty walked up to me,very quietly. When I turned around.I nearly knocked her down. "Get out of the way!" I shouted angrily. She ran away, crying.
That night, when I lay in bed,my husband said to me, "You were so rude to Betty.Go and look around on the kitchen floor, and you'll find some flowers there.Betty brought those for you.She picked them herself- pink, yellow, and your favourite blue."
When I heard this,I thought deeply:While meeting with a stranger,I was calm and polite;but with my daughter,I was not patient.I felt sad and tears began to fall.
