1.Like humans, animals need sleep too.A big problem for animals in the wild is keeping their enemies away while they sleep.Animals take care of this problem in different ways.
Anolis lizards live in many areas including tropical rainforests. They often sleep on leaves at the end of long branches.A leaf might seem like a strange bed,but it works like an alarm. If a hungry snake wiggles a branch, the lizard wakes up and leaps to safety.
Chimpanzees take their sleep very seriously. Each day,a chimpanzee builds itself a new, comfortable bed to sleep in.Scientists believe chimpanzees carefully choose a tree that is strong, where they build a nest using branches and leaves.
Parrotfish live among coral reefs in oceans.Every night, parrotfish usually sleep close to the rock in sheltered places. Some parrotfish go one step further by quickly making a slime layer that covers their whole body. This covering acts like a sleeping bag that provides a barrier against danger.
Bottle-nosed dolphins need to sleep, but they have to be on the ocean's surface to breathe. They also need to watch over their young. What do they do?While half of the dolphin's brain sleeps, the other half stays awake. After a while, the sleeping half wakes up while the other half snoozes.
Sooty terns have the most amazing sleep. They nest on islands. When they are not nesting, they live for many years in the sky and on the sea's surface. When and where can they sleep?Scientists believe they are able to sleep while they are flying, staying out of the reach of enemies.

2.Michael Priscilla is a young architect with a blog that I follow. In a post,he described how in 2005,he rode coast-to-coast,4,547 miles to Portland,Oregon, and he ended up staying tjye.aire.He thought his experience changed his life.
The story resonated with me,because when I was 17,the summer before I went into architecture school,I did much the same thing, and it changed my life too.I did not go quite as far, traveling 2,700 miles to Vancouver.
But it was still a very long way and in 1970,nobody was riding bikes. Our diet only consisted of a loaf of white bread and a jar of peanut butter each meal,or dinner with other people in the campgrounds who were just amazed that we were doing this.Equipment was primitive and we had no sunscreen.
But,as it was for Michael,it was a life-changing experience.I have never forgotten that everything weighs something and every ounce matters;in architecture I always tended toward light and portable and simple.I learned that people of all ages and origins are generally really, really nice and helpful and friendly. When I got back to architecture school,I saw the world differently, understood space and time differently, and I don't think that ever left me.
Going with the flow, having a good attitude and just being open to accept whatever happens,is the formula (公式)to having an amazing experience.Worrying and planning too much stops any experience from ever taking place. This is a hard lesson to learn.
Nowadays, lots of people of all ages are doing it.In America and Europe, bicycle tourism has become a big deal, with one website noting that bicycle vacations are the new golf.Perhaps crossing the entire country is a bit much, but reading Michael's post makes me want to get back on my bike and take a good long ride.
(1)What can we learn about Priscilla's and the author's cycling?
A.They had great influence on life.
B.They had the same finishing point.
C.They took place in the same year.
D.They covered more than 4,000 miles.
(2)How can we best describe the author's bicycling experience?
A.Romantic.
B.Wonderful.
C.Hard.
D.Risky.
(3)What advice will the author most likely give to the cyclists?
A.Find a good companion.
B.Choose a nice route.
C.Buy a comfortable bike.
D.Don't make too many plans.
(4)What is the purpose of this passage?
A.To recall an experience.
B.To introduce a blogger.
C.To explain a phenomenon.
D.To recommend a tour route.組卷:2引用:1難度:0.6 -
3.Kids are three times more likely to choose to be Internet celebrities(名人)than astronauts,a survey found recently. Many are already on their way - more and more children are now making and sharing videos on social media.
Meanwhile, education experts worry that going after Internet fame won't be good for children in the long run.Their biggest concern is that kids don't know how being on the Internet today might affect them in the future. The parts of the brain that people use to make decisions don't fully mature until around age 25,so children cannot imagine how their future might be affected by what they share now.
What's worse, some parents, who are crazy about becoming famous on their own, can't watch out for the best interests of their own children.A young mother,Michelle Hobson, was accused of starving and kicking her children when they didn't do what she wished for in the videos. She was charged with child abuse and ordered to distance herself from kids.
Keeping famous on the Internet takes much time and patience, too. It can distract students away from homework, sports and other activities. For example, one of the superstars,14-year-old Emma Garza, dropped out of school to become a Vlogger(video blogger). She said that making videos was so tough that she couldn't make time for study and even suffered back pain and weakening eyesight.
Although we don't yet know the effects on a child's development by constantly performing to entertain others,we can easily imagine that the effort to attract viewers will be less helpful to a kid, compared with spending that time reading a book. For a kid today, becoming an Internet superstar might not only be more popular than being an astronaut. It might also be more dangerous.
(1)What problem is discussed in Paragraph 1?
A.Internet affects kids' growth.
B.Young kids seek Internet fame.
C.Social media mislead children.
D.Children watch too many videos.
(2)What is the major concern of education experts about children?
A.Security.
B.Family.
C.Study.
D.Future.
(3)Why is Emma Garza mentioned in the passage?
A.To highlight her success.
B.To introduce a new career.
C.To show the impact on students.
D.To encourage kids to be Vloggers.
(4)What does the author think of children's being an Internet celebrity?
A.Exciting.
B.Doubtful.
C.Beneficial.
D.Negative.組卷:6引用:6難度:0.5

I was walking along the road to school one day and I met my friend Raine. He suggested that we skip school and go to the movies.I refused as my dad was very fierce and strict. After much persuasion,I gave in.There was a Will Smith movie on and I was a fan.
So we set off to the movies together, bought our tickets, popcorn and drinks and settled down comfortably. As we were early, the lights were still on.We watched people come in groups, families and there were couples too. Some of them looked like school students playing truant (逃學(xué)) like us.As I turned around,I caught a glimpse of my uncle Andy and Aunt Jane walking in.They were kind and cared about me very much.I sank into my seat quickly to avoid being spotted.I signaled to Raine that there was someone I didn't want to see and Raine made it more obvious by turning around and asking "Who?And where?" loudly. It made me sit even lower in my seat.
To make things worse, they came and sat in the row behind us and were saying to each other how I would have loved to come to this movie as I adored Will Smith. They were even commenting about the students playing truant.Soon the movie began and I was glad when the lights were turned off but I didn't enjoy the movie at all for fear of being spotted. So,I sat there like an astronaut, peering over the front seat.
Every now and then I would secretly take a quick look at my aunt and uncle.I was sure they were also looking at me.Feeling nervous and anxious,I kept wondering how I could leave the cinema without being noticed.
