2.The park bench was deserted as I sat down to read beneath the branches of an old willow tree, with good reason to frown, for the world was intent on dragging me down.At this time,a boy approached me.He stood right before me,and said with great excitement,"Look what I found!"
In his hand was a flower, and what a pitiful sight, with its petals (花瓣) all worn.Wanting him to take his flower and go off to play,I faked a small smile and then turned to the other side.
But instead of leaving,he sat next to my side and placed the flower to his nose and declared,"It really smells pretty and it's beautiful, too. That's why I picked it.He re,it's for you."
The flower before me was dying or dead. But I knew I must take it,or he might never leave. So I reached for the flower, and replied,"Just what I need."
But instead of placing the flower in my hand,he held it in mid-air.It was then that I noticed that the boy was blind.
I heard my voice quiver (輕微顫抖),and at the same time my tears shone like the sun.As I thanked him for picking the very best one,he smiled and said,"You're welcome."And then he ran off to play, unaware of the impact he'd had on me.
I sat there and wondered how he managed to see a self-pitying woman beneath an old willow tree.Perhaps from his heart,he'd been blessed with true sight.
Through the eyes of the blind boy,I could see the problem was not with the world;the problem was me.And for all of those times I had been blind. From now on I vowed to see beauty and appreciate every second that's mine. Then I held the flower up to my nose and breathed its fragrance and smiled as that young boy.

3.In the fall of 1959,F(xiàn)reed suffered a bad reputation for rumors of bribery (賄賂行為),and his troubles were too strong to be resisted. When WABC asked Freed to sign a statement swearing that he had never taken bribes,he refused and was fired.Although he later signed such a statement for WNEW-TV,he lost his television show as well.
Finding himself unwelcome in New York,F(xiàn)reed fled to the West Coast, where he managed to land a daytime disc jockey (流行音樂(lè)播音員) job at KDAY in Los Angeles in 1960.Legal problems continued to bother him, though, and he was charged with taking bribes of more than﹩30,000 from a number of record companies.Publicly,F(xiàn)reed denied that he had ever accepted direct bribes, although he acknowledged that he had accepted gifts from record companies, but only for playing records that he was certain would become hits anyway. After a short time at KDAY,he left when the station management refused to let him promote his live rock'n'roll shows. He returned to New York, but not as a broadcaster. At the height of the great enthusiasm for the twist dance,he hosted a Manhattan twist revue (時(shí)事諷刺劇),but when this enthusiasm cooled,he found a disc jockey job at WQAM in Miami in 1962.During this difficult period,F(xiàn)reed began drinking heavily and lost his job in Miami after only two months. In December of 1962 he was found guilty in New York of two charges of commercial bribery and was given a six-month sentence and fined﹩300.This effectively ended his career.
Freed spent the last years of his life in Palm Springs,California.Although he had redefined what it meant to be a disc jockey and named the music that had become an anthem (圣歌) for the world's youth,he was a disgraced (恥辱的) and b roken man,no longer able t o work in the business he loved. On January 20,1965,he died in a hospital in Palm Springs.

With Halloween approached,Chengdu's officials issued statement online, banning terrifying costumes to avoid chaos.Do you think it was reasonably? In my opinion, even if one wants to celebrate Halloween, then he or she should go to the US.I love Halloween, and it doesn't mean I want China to adopt the tradition, and I wouldn't ask for so a thing.I don't know about the origin in Halloween, but to me,it was not important. What's priceless is not the knowledge of that Halloween came from, but the pleasure you have with your friends. Each country should have its own unique traditions.I'm sure Chinese people have got its own ways of having fun.組卷:1引用:1難度:0.5
