  • 1.Having won the bid for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games on July 31,2015,Beijing is set to become the first city in the world to have hosted both the summer and winter editions of the Olympic Games.
       With a vision of Joyful Rendezvous upon Pure Ice and Snow,Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games will build on the legacies of the landmark Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and expects to encourage millions of people across China to embrace winter sports.
       The 109 events in seven Olympic winter sports will be held in the three competition zones of central Beijing,Yanqing and Zhangjiakou.
    Three Competition Zones
       Beijing will host all the ice events(curling,ice hockey and skating) and four snow events,making full use of the legacy venues of Beijing 2008 in the spirit of Olympic Agenda 2020.
       Yanqing,a suburban district of Beijing (80km to the northwest) and home to the famous Badaling and Juyongguan stretches of the Great Wall,is to host the alpine skiing and sliding events.
       Zhangjiakou,further to the northwest in the neighboring Hebei province,will host all the other snow events in its Chongli district,a popular skiing destination.
    Seven new events
       The addition of seven new events - women's monobob,freestyle skiing big air(men's and women's)and mixed team events in short track speed skating team relay,ski jumping.Freestyle skiing aerials and snowboard cross-to Beijing 2022's sports programme will bring about the most gender-balanced Winter Olympic Games to date,with more female athletes(45.44 percent)and women's events than at any previous Games.
    Spring Festival (Chinese New Year)
       2022 Olympic Winter Games will take place in February 2022,coinciding with the Chinese New Year,the most important holiday in China.Local residents are looking forward to welcoming athletes from around the globe to enjoy the Chinese New Year festivities,the majestic landscape and the rich cultures of central Beijing Yanqing and Zhangjiakou,as they charm the world with the beauty of winter sports.

  • 2.A primary school principal in north China has become the latest internet celebrity for busting some cool moves during a morning exercise routine with his students.
       Every morning,40-year-old principal Zhang Pengfei at the Xi Guan Primary School in Linyi county,Shanxi province would lead about 700 pupils on the playground in a synchronised "ghost shuffle" routine-a dance that incorporates contemporary jazz steps with heel,toe and arm movements.The bold headmaster thought the fun and energetic exercise routine would better encourage students to get active instead of "being glued to their mobile phones".
       The school's new 30-minute dance routine has replaced the government-imposed broadcast callisthenics programme,a short workout that has been a requirement at every primary,middle and secondary school in China since 1951. "I thought we needed a change because the students have been losing interest in doing the broadcast callisthenics routine," Zhang told Southern Metropolis News.
       The dedicated principal said he came across a group of people doing the "ghost shuffle" routine at a public plaza last summer and decided to learn the dance himself. "I thought the dance would be great for kids," he said. "The music is full of energy and it really gets the happy feeling of flowing." In October.jye.ai introduced the choreographed (編舞) routine to all of his students and shortly after,even teachers and staff were joining in. "Now the students aren't constantly on their phones.I sometimes catch them watching different dance routine videos and learning new moves!" the proud headmaster told reporters.
       The video quickly went around on Chinese social media,with a Weibo topic page titled "principal leads students in ghost dance routine" gathering 250 million views. "This is perhaps the best adaption of sport and entertainment for children." a comment on Weibo read.

       This modern day solution comes thanks to an agreement signed on Friday by the museum and Huawei Co.,the telecommunication giant,to build a "smart network" using 5 G technology.Under the agreement,5 G Wi-Fi signals will cover the Palace Museum,China's royal palace from 1420 to 1911,and the branch museum of the institution under construction in northwestern Beijing.
       "It's essential to always stay close to the latest technology to better serve the public," said Shan Jixiang,former director of the Palace Museum.Shan said there is still much room for improvement in the handling of a huge number of cultural relics (文物),such as when the priceless painting Along the River During the Qingming Festival is exhibited again in the future.When it was last exhibited in 2015,visitors stood in long lines until 3 am to get a glimpse.The museum ended up preparing instant noodles to serve the hungry visitors. "I don't want that scenario to reoccur," Shan said. "Our operation can be done in a more scientific way."
       The new system will also make use of the closed--circuits television cameras that are set up all over the Palace Museum to safeguard the museum's precious relics.More than 1.86 million of them are housed at the museum,which recorded nearly 20 million visits from the public last year,topping all museums worldwide. "How can we make sure no single visitor who might have evil ideas threatens these treasures?" Shan said. "After adopting the internet of things,we can instantly detect any motion involving the artifacts to prevent such threats."
       The 5 G network also will be used to improve remote consultation through webcams,which will facilitate conversations with overseas scholars to jointly find the best answers for restoration and preservation issues.
