Then he walked out laughing. From then on,I was unwilling to wear shorts until I was 30 years old.For the next 15 years,I spent summer after summer roasting in long pants.
But then I met Ragen Chastain.I couldn't believe that this woman who, like myself, weighed almost 300 pounds, was so energetic and happy in her own skin.I listened as she shared her own journey to recovery and self-love.She talked about how amazing our bodies are, simply because of the things they do every day-like breathing, pumping blood to every cell and walking.
Walking!I was suddenly aware or how foolish I'd been for so long. There're people who are born without legs,or who lack properly working legs,or who lose their legs, and I'd been hiding my perfectly strong, healthy, beautiful legs in shame. The next day.I bought three pairs of shorts and a sundress and spent the entire summer letting my legs see the sun and feel the breeze.
The next time anyone comment?on your body in a negative(消極的)way, look them straight in the eye, smile and say. "It what you see bothers you so much, feel free to practise the ancient art of looking somewhere else. " That's Ragen's own creation, but I don't think she'll mind if you use it.

  • 3.Languages are windows to different cultures, allowing us to connect with others from around the world. But learning a new language not just has a simple conversation or has access to different words, concepts.
A study by Dr.Thomas Bak who is a lecturer at Edinburgh's School of Philosophy,Psychology and Language Sciences showed that bilingual(雙語的)young learners performed better on attention tests and had better concentration than those who spoke only one language.Dr.Bak tested 853 participants in 1947,when they were all 11 years old,and retested them when they were in their early 70s.He found that bilingual learners performed better than expected. The strongest effects were seen in general intelligence and reading. The results showed that learning a new language in adulthood still has positive results.
There is another study visualize the benefits of learning a new language on the brain. The researchers conducted the study on two groups of scholars; One that studied languages and another that studied non-linguistic subjects. The MRI scans showed that the brains of the participants studying languages increased in size, while the brain sizes of the other group remained the same. The studies suggest the bilingualism improves the brain's executive(可執(zhí)行的)function.Learning another language is one of the most effective and practical ways to increase intelligence, keep your mind sharp, and buffer(減緩)your brain against aging.
"As a language learner, you'll not only become a more conscious thinker and listener who can communicate clearly and think creatively, but you'll also gain the most significant benefit of multilingualism:A broader, more global perspective," writes Dan Roitman of Pimsleur in the Huffington Post.

(1)How does Dr.Thomas Bak explain her finding in paragraph 2?

    A.By using an expert's words.
    B.By making comparison.
    C.By referring to another study.
    D.By introducing a concept.
(2)What can we learn about from the researches?

A.Dr.Thomas Bak had the participants retested after seventy years later.
B.Those who are good at reading also do well in learning a new language.
C.The language learners' brain size is larger than the non-verbal(非語言的)learner.
D.Language learning can make the brain energetic and slow down its aging.
(3)What does Dan Roitman think of learning languages?

A.Learning language is useful to person's development.
B.Travelling around the world is necessary for language learning.
C.Language learners are merely good at thinking and listening.
D.Language learners are more active than non-verbal learner.
(4)Which of the following is the best title for the text?

A.Stopping Learning Languages Can Get a Creative Brain

  • 4.Solar power is now the cheapest source of electricity in history, according to a 2020 report. But there's something holding this clean energy powerhouse back:Space.Unlike fossil fuel power stations, solar farms need a lot of room. While conventional solar farms sometimes attract controversy(爭論)due to the amount of land they use, floating solar farms occupy much less valuable space above bodies of water.
"As demand for land increases, water bodies are increasingly being targeted for renewable energy.Deployment(部署)of solar on water increases electricity production." said Giles Exley,PhD researcher and lead author from Lancaster University. The research team set about computer modelling using the MyLake simulation programme and data collected by the UK's Centre for Ecology and Hydrology from England's largest lake,Windermere.
Their results show that floating solar arrays(陣列)can cool water temperatures by shading the water from the sun.At scale, this could help to mitigate against harmful effects caused by global warming. However, some complex conditions can result in the bottom layer of water becoming deoxygenated (脫氧的)and makes water quality worse- if floating solar farms are stationed.
"Floating solar could help to reduce the negative effects of global warming which will influence on these bodies of water," Exley said. "However, there are also real risks of disadvantageous impacts, such as deoxygenation causing undesirable increases in nutrient concentrations and killing fish.We need to do more researches to understand the possibility of both positive and negative impacts."
The larger the solar installation(安裝設(shè)備),the greater the effect on water temperature increases.Further studies will be needed to determine the suitable size array and design and their effects for individual lakes and artificial lakes.

(1)What do we know about floating solar in the first paragraph?

A.The electricity of floating solar is cheaper than the solar power's.
B.Fossil fuel power stations take larger room than the solar farms.
C.Floating solar has aroused greatly controversy around the public.
D.Floating solar farms could save more space efficiently.
(2)What does the underlined phrase "mitigate against" mean in paragraph 3?

    A.Increase.
    B.Decrease.
    C.Support.
    D.Promote.
(3)What can we infer from the research of Giles Exley?

A.There is no negative effects to develop floating solar.
B.The research team collect the information from computer.
C.The water temperatures under the floating solar arrays are lower.
D.Floating solar can get rid of the drawbacks of global warming.
(4)What is the research team going to do next?

    A.To install more floating solar.
    B.To do more researches.
    C.To design different floating solar.
D.To measure the size of the floating solar.
