  • 2.Much of our thinking about health is based on wishful thinking. But science provides clear and simple advice for a healthy life.Graham Lawton explores the evidence.Graham proves that you don't have to be a health and fitness extremist to be reasonably jye.aialthy.He has rounded up the latest and strictest health research and changed it into useful advice on all the big health questions:diet, weight loss, exercise, sleep, ageing and so on.
Graham,New Scientist feature writer,is not the common health expert. He sometimes ents fast food.He has a gym membership but rarely uses it.And he takes medicine to keep his blood pressure under control. He neither has a diet plan nor a 6-week program to keep fit and thin.
But be does have a much better weapon:science. In a talk,Graham explains the basic science, tells people some of the secrets of science, teaches people to use the ability of judge-ment to tell the good from the bad,and helps them to see beyond the headlines. The talk allows people to cat healthily, lose weight, and sort the truth out from science facts.
But he loves outdoor sports.Last year Graham cycled over 1,200 miles and ran the same distance of 15 marathons. He often goes swimming outdoors, walks up eight flights of stairs to his desk instead of taking the lift.He eats his five copies of fruit and vegetables a day, keeps enough water in his body, and doesn't eat much meat.Despite all the bad habits, his good ones seem to be winning.Graham is 50,but his"biological age"was recently measured as 45.

(1)What can we learn about Graham?

    A.He has some bad habits.
B.He has an extremely strict diet.
C.He looks down on common health experts.

B.The Secrets of Living a Henlthy Life
C.The Unique Path to Scientific Success
D.The Importance of Exercise for Health

Apollo John Rwamparo is a deputy prime minister of Uganda. He really values country's cultural jye.airitage.He requested the British to return the artifacts.Uganda officials are preparing to meet with the University of Cambridge in Britain about the return of such historical artifacts. The school has an unknown number of artifacts from Africa.Through many efforts,an artifact was recently to its home.
The British Museum holds a large collection of artifacts from Africa.Rose Mwanja said Uganda's commission had been trying hard on it and believed it could have some good effects. She is Uganda's commissioner for museums. She added she could start with those that are more willing to cooperate.
Many of the artifacts from Africa cannot even be found. That led to an organization started by late Congolese art collector Sindika Dokolo. The organization offers to buy African art from collections in foreign countries.By 2020,when Dokolo died, his group had successfully recovered 15 items. However, for African governments, the recovery of artifacts remains a struggle and will take much time.

第二節(jié)(滿分25分)

  • 9.閱讀下面材料,根據(jù)其內(nèi)容和所給段落開頭語續(xù)寫兩段,使之構(gòu)成一篇完整的短文。
It was thirty years ago,and I was twenty years old as a new teacher in an elementary school in Toronto,Canada. My class was made up of thirty-eight kids, one of them named Mike.Mike was a street kid.He never knew his parents and lived with an uncaring grandmother. His clothing was in need of repair. He was ten years old and looked in bad health.Like most new, young teachers,I was full of enthusiasm and wanted to make a difference.I decided to reach out to help the kid in need.
So it was that early in September that my special "foster father(養(yǎng)父)" relationship with Mike began with the permission of his grandmother.I became the only parent figure he ever had. Each day,I'd take him for meals.I showed him how to repair clothes.I taught him a lot of new skills like using a computer, taking photos and knowing about nature.Mike would then help me teach the rest of the class these skills. We all had a lot of fun,and a kind of un-spoken trust began to build up between us.Surprisingly,he appeared eager to join in this new father-son relationship.
Early in our special relationship,Mike told me his dream. Most of the kids in the class wanted to be doctors, musicians, teachers or some such things, but not Mike. "I want to be a gangster(土匪),Mr.Kowalchuk!" he said. This was no joke—this was his wish, and he was most serious about it.
I believe all children have a gift.Everyone has the same chance to be the best person they can be.I realized this boy was smart, and that with a little love, attention, understanding, guidance and encouragement,he could probably achieve whatever he put his mind to.I explained to him that a good gangster had to read a large number of books on law in the law library and know criminal law(刑法) well like an excellent lawyer(律師).His young mind was eager and interested.
    注意:
    (1)續(xù)寫詞數(shù)應(yīng)為150左右;
    (2)請(qǐng)按如下格式在答題卡的相應(yīng)位置作答。
If he wanted to be a "gangster",I would do something to help him._________
Years later,I got married and started a new life in another city.__________
