1.It was around 11:30 p.m.jye.ai I came back from office.I was annoyed and wanted to reach home and rest.I was in my car.The traffic light just before my house turned red and my anger rose.
Then suddenly someone came up from behind me and tried to hand me a piece of paper.I thought it was another one of those people who handed you pages with some sad stories and asked you for money. They were good at cheating you.I could feel anger boiling up inside me and brushed the person off impatiently without even looking at him.
This guy moved over to,the next person and showed him the paper. The other guy who was not in as bad mood as mine looked at the paper and started giving directions.jye.ai was at this moment that I realized the person was asking for directions. He couldn't speak so he had written it down on a piece of paper. He was not some beggar asking for money and he was dressed as a salesman carrying one of those bully encyclopedias (百科全書(shū)).After getting the directions he smiled at the person, bowed his head showing his appreciation and walked away.
I felt a sudden pity for him.I moved on but I was still feeling bad for treating a hard working person that way.Though this didn't change my life,I learned a precious lesson:try,to treat others with tolerance and kindness even though sometimes life throws you annoying happenings.

3.Children are hardly invited to speak at the United Nation General Assembly(聯(lián)合國(guó)).But there stood Felix Finkbeiner,a German boy. "Adults know the environmental problems and they know the solutions," he said. "But we don't know why there is so little action.Perhaps we have to depend on ourselves to save our future."
At the time of this speech,F(xiàn)inkbeiner was already four years into his leadership of th e"Plant-for-the-Planet" group. Now,F(xiàn)inkbeiner is 25 years old and his group has planted over 14 billion trees in more than 130 nations.Tens of thousands of children have been trained to become "climate ambassadors(大使)" in their home communities.
"Plant-for-the-Planet" came out of a school project when Finkbeiner was a fourth-grader.The topic was climate change. To his nine-year-old worldview, that meant a danger to his favorite animal, the polar bear. The boy began to do his research online.Instead of information about polar bears,he found stories about Wangari Maathai. The Kenyan woman had planted 30 million trees in order to fix the environment of her hometown. The effort won her the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004.
Finkbeiner realized that it was not really about saving polar bears.Instead,it was about saving human beings. He made a big decision:to plant one million trees in Germany.Finkbeiner was serious about his goal. Two months later,F(xiàn)inkbeiner planted his first tree,a crab apple(酸蘋(píng)果樹(shù)),near the entrance to his school. The story attracted a lot of media attention in no time.Word spread quickly. The next thing Finkbeiner knew,he was speaking to the European Parliament(歐洲議會(huì)).
"Plant-for-the-Planet" is now setting its sights on planting one trillion trees. That's 1,000 billion. Those trees could take in ten billion tons of carbon dioxide every year.Finkbeiner says that will buy time for the world to get serious about climate change.

8.Whether your garden is on a city windowsill or in a big backyard getting kids involved in tending to plants can be a powerful teaching tool for subjects like science, math and reading. Here's how your garden can grow responsibility, kindness and other values in your kids.
Being patient is hard for many children, but it can be important for their future. It can also help kids stay calm in stressful situations. You know good stuff comes at the end of a growing season — like yummy fruit or pretty flowers — kids have to wait for it.For instance a carrot seed can take between 70 and 80 days to mature (成熟).When kids develop a garden, for longer-growth plants they can create a garden journal to record the progress of their seedling with words drawings or photos.
Studies suggest that kindness can help kids develop empathy (同理心). "Being kind helps children develop positive relationships," scientists say. "It can also help them manage feelings of anxiety and depression." When kids realize that a garden is full of living things that need their help to grow, they would like to pay more attention to caring about them.Let kids plant garden helpers like thyme and tansy, which both keep away bad bugs.Kids can also release good ladybugs which eat aphids (蚜蟲(chóng)) on plants like roses.
Children who see themselves as more responsible often feel better about themselves. And learning to take responsibility for their choices teaches kids how to choose between right and wrong.Looking after any kind of garden — even a small window box — need constant (不斷的) hard work to make sure that the plants grow well.Allow kids to be in charge of a single container or a small part of a bigger garden for which they're totally responsible.grow(1) ●help kids stay calm
