2.Our bachelor uncle lived with us,who loved hunting and fishing;and it was one of the pleasures of our young life to go fishing with him.
I remember my first fishing experience as if it happened yesterday.I was very excited when I received that first fishing pole from my uncle's hand, and went fishing with him.It was a still, sweet day of early summer;the leaves seemed greener, the flowers brighter, the birds merrier, than ever before.
My uncle considerately placed me at the most favorable point.I threw out my line as I had so often seen others, and waited anxiously for a bite, moving the bait(魚餌)in rapid movement on the surface of the water just like the jumps of a frog.Nothing came of it. "Try again," said my uncle.Suddenly the bait sank out of sight. "Now for it," thought I, "here is a fish at last."
I made a strong pull, and brought up a tangle of weeds.Again and again I cast out my line with aching arms, and drew it back empty. "Try once more," he said,"we fishermen must have patience to catch a fish." "But remember, boy," he said, with his big smile, "never say you've caught a fish until it is on dry ground. It's no use showing off anything until it's done."
How often since I have been reminded of the fish that I did not catch! When hear people boasting of a work as yet undone,I will remember the wise caution of my uncle in that particular instance takes the form of a proverb of universal application:"NEVER BOAST(吹噓)OF YOUR FISH BEFORE YOU CATCH HIM."

3.You're in a department store and you see a couple of attractive young women looking at a sweater. You listen to their conversation:
"I can't believe it---Lorenzo Bertolla! It is almost impossible to find.Isn't it beautiful? And it's a lot cheaper than the one Sara bought in Rome."
They leave and you go over to see this incredible sweater. It's nice and the price is right. You've never heard of Lorenzo Bertolla, but those girls looked really stylish. They must know. So,you buy it.You never realize that those young women are employees of an advertising agency. They are actually paid to go from store to store, talking loudly about Lorenzo Bertolla clothes.
Every day we notice what people are wearing, driving and eating. If the person looks cool, the product seems cool, too. This is the secret of undercover marketing.
Companies from Ford to Nike are starting to use it.
Undercover marketing is important because it reaches people that don't pay attention to traditional advertising. This is particularly true of the MTV generation --- consumers between the age of 18 and 34.It is a golden group. They have a lot of money to spend, but they don't trust ads.
So advertising agencies hire young actors to "perform" in bars and other places where young adults go.Some people might call this practice misleading, but marketing executive Jonathan Ressler calls it creative. "Look at traditional advertising. Its effectiveness is decreasing." It is true, because everyone knows and ad is trying to persuade you to buy something. However, you don't know when a conversation you overhear is just a performance.

A.be heard by people around
B.get the answer at a lower price

A.a(chǎn) very popular male singer
B.a(chǎn)n advertising agency

4.Social networks are a big part of nearly every teenager's life in this day and age. Many teens have QQ,WeChat,or Weibo but little do a lot of teens know that they can be held responsible for everything they post for the rest of their lives.Everything you post online is part of a digital footprint that can always be traced(追蹤)back to you. That includes every post, even every like, comment, favorite and forward that you have ever committed. All pictures you've posted or will post have been stored in a digital database, and it is the companies' right to keep all of these documents that you believe to have been deleted or hidden.
With every post comes a consequence;whether it is good or bad, what you post could be seen by anyone. That is why you have to be very careful of what you decide to post or comment.
If you think you are safe from Servite finding out about one funny comment you made six months ago on a meaningless picture, you are probably wrong.Recently,a senior,Aaron,at Servite learned this lesson the hard way this year.He wrote a series of ugly comments towards Connelly girls on a web page, ignoring potential consequences.
This student, however, did have to face consequences from Servite as he was removed from all of his leadership roles in the school,Surprisingly enough,he fully agreed with his punishment handed down by the administration and fully understood why he was given such severe discipline(處罰). "When you agree to come to Servite, you are agreeing to defend what Servite stands for,the young man said. "That continues from 8 am to 2 pm.It's at all times."
So,next time you're about to post something you think could be received as offensive or inappropriate, think twice,or don't press the "Send".

Dear Tom,

Li Hua組卷:28引用:3難度:0.7 -
19."What's wrong with you, dear?" said Granny Bell to a little boy,who sat near a wall at the back of the house. He had a book in his hand, and tears were in his eyes.
"We have all got a poem called Little Jim to learn," said the boy, whose name was Tom Blair, "and the one who says the best is to get a prize from the master. But I don't think I can learn it."
"Why not?" said Granny Bell.
"The boys say that I can't,and that I need not try," said Tom in a sad tone.
"Don't mind what the boys say.Let them see that you can learn it." said his friend.
"But I don't think I can." said Tom, "it is so long, and some of the words are so hard.I know I need not try for the prize. But I would like to learn the poem as well as I can;for the boys laugh at me,and call me 'Slow Tom'."
"Well, dear," said Granny Bell,in a kind voice,"if you are slow, and can't help it,try to be slow and sure,as they say.Look at the snail(蝸牛)on the wall;how slow it is!And yet,if you watch it,you will see it will get to the top in time.So just try to learn a few lines each day,and you may gain the prize in the end.And when you feel like losing heart, think of the snail on the wall."
After Granny Bell had said this, she went on her way.And Tom thought that, though he could not keep up with the boys,he might run a race with the snail. So he determined to try to learn his task by the time the snail got to the top of the wall.
