2.One day when I was 5,my mother scolded(責(zé)罵) me for not finishing my breakfast and I got angry.I wanted to play outside and not to be made to finish eating my breakfast. When angrily opening the screen door with my foot,I kicked back about a 12-inch part of the lower left hand corner of the new screen door. But I had no remorse.for I was happy to be playing in the backyard with my toys.
Today,I know if my child had done what I did,I would have scolded my child, and told him about how expensive this new screen door was,and I would have delivered a spanking(打屁股) for it.My parents never said a word. They left the corner of the screen door pushed out, creating an opening,a breach(裂縫) in the defense against unwanted insects.
For years, every time I saw that corner of the screen,it would constantly make me think about my mistake. For years,I knew that everyone in my family would see that hole and remember who did it.For years, every time I saw a fly buzzing(嗡嗡) in the kitchen,I would wonder if it came in through the hole that I had created with my angry foot.I would wonder if my family members were thinking the same thing, silently blaming me every time a flying insect entered our home, making life more terrible for us all.My parents taught me a valuable lesson, one that a spanking or stern(嚴(yán)厲的) words perhaps could not deliver.Their silent punishment for what I had done delivered a hundred stern messages to me.Above all,it has helped me become a more patient person and not burst out so easily.

3.In Billings,Montana, some healthcare experts are using 3 D printers to make reusable plastic masks. What makes them special is that the masks are then fitted with pieces of surgical(外科的) masks which can be replaced when needed.
"The surgical masks are cut into smaller squares that can be filled into the plastic mask to serve as a filter(過濾器),"said Dusty Richardson,a surgeon at the Billings Clinic."The filter can be used for a day and you can substitute it the next day,but I do wash it for the next use," Richardson added. The plastic mask and filter can be cleaned with soap, bleach (a chemical that is used to make something become white) and other cleaning chemicals.Richardson believes healthcare workers can get six to ten uses out of a single surgical mask.
Richardson came up with a prototype(原型) of the mask last week and worked with surgeon Spencer Zaugg and Spencer's son Colton to make the design become a reality. They're all really into 3 D printing and Colton has design experience and was able to adapt a pattern he found online.
"Spencer and Colton have four 3 D printers," Richardson said.Public schools in Billings are closed because ofCOVID-19,but some teachers went back into their classrooms on Monday to start printing out masks on their schools'3 D printer.
All the files, details, and design info along with revisions were originally uploaded on Zaugg's dental office website at www.loveliveyoursmile.jye.ai that has received over 15,000 downloads for anyone trying to print around the world. With so much need and request for the website, they teamed up with a Silicon Valley tech company and just launched the www.makethemasks.jye.ai website that is now live. The new website is expected to run faster but.jye.ai so many people requesting the free file download,it's taking time.
A company called HiTech Filters heard about the project and said that they could mass-produce filters using hospital-grade high-efficiency material quickly without wasting precious surgical masks."Were just trying to help people here," Richardson said. "We want healthcare providers and patients to be safe."

4.You've heard that plastic is polluting the oceans—between 4.8 and 12.7 million tonnes enter ocean ecosystems every year. But does one plastic straw or cup really make a difference?Artist Benjamin Von Wong wants you to know that it does.He builds massive sculptures out of plastic garbage, forcing viewers to re-examine their relationship to single-use plastic products.
At the beginning of the year, the artist built a piece called "Strawpocalypse,"a pair of 10-foot-tall plastic waves, frozen mid-crash.Made of 168,000 plastic straws collected from several volunteer beach cleanups, the sculpture made its first appearance at the Estella Place shopping center in Ho Chi Minh City,Vietnam.
Just 9% of global plastic waste is recycled.Plastic straws are by no means the biggest source of plastic pollution, but they've recently come under fire because most people don't need them to drink with and, because of their small size and weight, they cannot be recycled.Every straw that's part of Von Wong's artwork likely came from a drink that someone used for only a few minutes.Once the drink is gone, the straw will take centuries to disappear.
In a piece from 2018,Von Wong wanted to illustrate a specific statistic:Every 60 seconds,a truckload's worth of plastic enters the ocean. For this work, tided"Truckload of Plastic," Von Wong and a group of volunteers collected more than 10,000 pieces of plastic, which were then tied together to look like they'd been dumped(傾倒)from a truck all at once.
Von Wong hopes that his work will also help pressure big companies to reduce their plastic footprint.
(1)What are Von Wong's artworks intended for?
A.Beautifying the city he lives in.
B.Introducing eco-friendly products.
C.Calling for environment protection.
D.Reducing garbage on the beach.
(2)Why does the author discuss plastic straws in Paragraph 3?
A.To show the difficulty of their recycling.
B.To explain why they are useful.
C.To voice his views on modern art.

(3)How may the viewers feel when seeing"Truckload of Plastic"?
A.Comforted.
B.Inspired.
C.Pleased.
D.Refreshed.
