First reports on UFOs came during World War Ⅱ.In 1947 the pilot Kenneth Arnold said while he was flying near the Mount Rainier he saw a very bright object in the sky.He told that it was like a plate, too. The information given by Kenneth got lots of attention from the media and people.

  • 2.You're sitting in class and your stomach is starting to rumble(咕咕叫).Finally, the bell rings and it's time for lunch! After class, you should have a chance to go to the dining room and sit down, relax, and enjoy the time with your friends over a lunchtime meal. But wait a minute —what exactly are you eating?
When choosing what to eat for lunch, making a healthy choice is really important.Eating various healthy foods gives you energy to study, helps you grow the way you should, and can even keep you from getting sick.Think of your school lunch as the fuel(燃料) you put in your car.If you choose the wrong kind of fuel, you might run out of energy before the day is over.
Most kids have the choice of packing lunch or buying one at school. The good news is that a kid can get a healthy lunch in either way.Probably, some meals and foods served at school are healthier than others. That doesn't mean you shouldn't buy your lunch. It just means you might want to give the menu a closer look.
A packed lunch isn't always healthier than one you buy at school. If you pack chocolate cake and potato chips, that's not a healthy meal! But a packed lunch,if you do it right, does have a clear advantage. When packing your lunch, you can be sure it includes your favourite healthy foods. If your favourite sandwich is peanut butter and banana, just make it and pack it—then you can eat it for lunch.
If you want to pack your lunch, you'll need some help from your parents.Talk to them about what you like in your lunch so they can stock up on those foods.Parents might offer to pack your lunch for you.It is nice of them, but you may want to watch how they do it and ask if you can start making your lunches yourself. It's a way to show that you're growing up.

(1)Why does the writer compare our stomach to a car?

A.To explain the importance of healthy food.
B.To prove that a lot of things can be put into a car.
C.To describe the relationship between a car and its fuel.
D.To show that lunch is as important as the fuel in a car.
(2)What can we learn from Paragraph 3 mainly?

A.We can have many choices for lunch.

C.We should not choose meals served in our schools.
D.We should look at the menu carefully before buying our lunch.
(3)What can we learn about packed lunch?

A.It's cheaper than other types of lunch.
B.It s better than the one bought at school.
C.It can be satisfying if the food is chosen properly.
D.Most people like junk food as their lunch.
(4)In the last paragraph, what does the author advise kids to do?

A.Stock up on what they like.

  • 3.After years of heated debate, gray wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone National Park.Fourteen wolves were caught in Canada and transported to the park.By last year, the Yellowstone wolf population had grown to more than 170 wolves.
Gray wolves once were seen here and there in the Yellowstone area and much of the continental United States, but they were gradually displaced by human development.By the 1920s,wolves had practically disappeared from the Yellowstone area. They went farther north into the deep forests of Canada, where there were fewer humans around.
The disappearance of the wolves had many unexpected results.Deer and elk populations—major food sources (來源) for the wolf—grew rapidly. These animals consumed large amounts of vegetation (植被),which reduced plant diversity in the park.In the absence of wolves, coyote populations also grew quickly. The coyotes killed a large percentage of the park's red foxes, and completely drove away the park's beavers.
As early as 1966,biologists asked the government to consider reintroducing wolves to Yellowstone Park. They hoped that wolves would be able to control the elk and coyote problems. Many farmers opposed the plan because they feared that wolves would kill their farm animals or pets.
The government spent nearly 30 years coming up with a plan to reintroduce the wolvers. The
U.S.Fish and Wildlife Service carefully monitors and manages the wolf packs in Yellowstone.Today, the debate continues over how well the gray wolf is fitting in at Yellowstone.Elk,deer, and coyote populations are down, while beavers and red foxes have made a comeback. The Yellowstone wolf project has been a valuable experiment to help biologists decide whether to reintroduce wolves to other parts of the country as well.

(1)What is the text mainly about?

A.Wildlife research in the United States.
B.Plant diversity in the Yellowstone area.
C.The conflict between farmers and gray wolves.
D.The reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone Park.
(2)What does the underlined word "displaced" in paragraph 2 mean?

    A.Tested.
    B.Separated.
    C.Forced out.
    D.Tracked down.
(3)What did the disappearance of gray wolves bring about?

    A.Damage to local ecology.
B.A decline in the park's income.
    C.Preservation of vegetation.
D.An increase in the variety of animals.
(4)What is the author's attitude towards the Yellowstone wolf project?
