2.My father loves his garden. He planted some seeds in it.But at that time I didn't understand why working in the dirt excited him so much.
Unfortunately,in early May,my father was seriously injured in an accident He had to stay in bed for a while. My mother had several business trips so she couldn't take care of the garden? I didn't want my father to worry,so I said that I would take care of his garden until he recovered.I assumed that the little plants would continue to grow as long as they had water, and luckily it rained fairly often so I didn't think much about the garden.
One Saturday morning,my father said to me, "Christine, the vegetables should be about ready to be picked.Let's have a salad today!" I went out to the garden and was upset to see that many of the lettuce leaves and carrots had been half eaten by bugs. There were hundreds of bugs all over them!
I panicked for a moment, but then I quietly went to the nearest store to buy some vegetables.
When I gave the salad to him,he said, "Oh,Christine, what a beautiful salad!I can't believe the carrots are this big already. You must be taking very good care of my garden."I felt a little bit guilty.
Coming home,my mother saw the bag from the supermarket in the kitchen.I was embarrassed and I admitted, "Dad wanted a salad, but the garden was a disaster.I didn't want to disappoint him so I went to the store." She laughed but promised to help me in the garden and weeks later I was finally able to pick some.
I carefully made a salad and took it to my father. He looked at it with a hint of a smile. "Christine, the carrots are smaller in this salad, but they taste better."
Now,I better understand how putting a lot of effort into caring for something can help you appreciate the results more, however small they maybe.Perhaps this was one of the reasons for my father's love of gardening.

3.It's thought that around 5 trillion pieces of plastic are currently floating in our oceans.
Both mammals and fish benefit from clean oceans. It is reported that more than 8 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans every year, and nearly half of the plastic we produce is single-use only.
This shoe brand, however,is riding the wave of change and is on a mission to help clean up our waters and rid the sea of plastic bottles that can take up to 400 years to break down.Vivobarefoot's newest footwear uses recycled plastic materials and has created an education program that spreads awareness about how harmful plastic is for sea life.
Every pair of shoes is made up of 17 plastic water bottles taken from the ocean and turned into a sustainable, comfortable pair of shoes, which are also healthy for your feet. And while not everyone can take part in ocean cleanups, choosing little ways we can give back to our planet goes a long way.
Vivobarefoot's new products include a variety of high-performance styles such as casual sneakers, running shoes, and hiking boots. The brand hopes that its latest initiative(首創(chuàng)精神)will help lessen the indifference to pollution and how harmful it is for all living beings.
In the future,Vivobarefoot hopes to increase their production of shoes created from sustainable materials, and thankfully, they are now one of many brands that aim to increase environmentalism and educate communities on how global warming affects everyone.
This year, they'll add more recyclable and traceable materials into more than half of their production line, and they have plenty of creative developments in the works as well.
The shoes also have a health benefit.Based on the concept that wider, minimally designed shoes enable our foot to function at maximum potential, wearers also experience better balance and sensory input.

9.Lisa woke up on Saturday morning very excited.Today she was turning 10.She thought her mother would make her a special breakfast.Last year on her birthday,Lisa woke up to the smell of pancakes and sausage cooking. The kitchen table was full of fresh fruit and juice, and her family had even bought lots of fresh flowers to put on the table.
But when she went downstairs this morning, her father, mother and brother were eating cereal (麥片) at the table, just like any other day.No one even said "Happy birthday."
When the phone rang and her mother announced that Lisa's aunt wanted to speak with her,she knew that it must be to wish her the best on her 10th birthday. But to Lisa's surprise, her aunt simply wanted to remind her to pick up her mail the next week while her aunt was out of town.
Lisa was quite confused. She thought that her family would say something about her special day,but she didn't want to seem upset. She tried to be cheerful. After all,she was looking forward to meeting her friends in the park soon.Surely they were going to be excited about her birthday.
When Lisa arrived at the park, her friend Jane was the first to greet her. "Nice day, isn't it,Lisa?" she asked.
Lisa, ready for her friend to wish her a happy birthday, responded excitedly, "Yes,it is!It's a great day.You know why?"
"Because it's Saturday and the weather is great!" Jane replied.
Lisa nodded, but looked down in disappointment.
Soon the rest of her friends arrived, and they all had a good time playing soccer and spending time together. But Lisa couldn't help but think that it was strange that none of them had mentioned her birthday.
As she walked home in the late afternoon sun,Lisa tried her best not to cry.How could everyone forget her birthday? She was close to tears by the time she reached her home.
注意:續(xù)寫詞數(shù)應為150左右。
