1.Four Famous Books in American History The 1920s was the first recognizably "modern" period in American history and the books at that time remain current in many sense. Here are 4 books published in the 1920s that everyone should read.
The Great Gatsby
Whether or not it truly is his "best" novel, there's a reason that F.Scott.Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby remains his most popular work today. The themes in the novel reflect the sudden change in America itself .The novel also conveys the American Dream, the idea that self-made (白手起家的) men and women could make themselves into anything in this country.Fitzgerald rejected the idea, however.
Ulysses
Ulysses employs,"stream of consciousness(意識流)",a technique that seeks to exactly copy the inner monologue (獨白) of a person, which was commonly credited.jye.ai William James.James Joyce wasn't the first writer to use this technique (Dostoevsky used it in the 19th century),but he was the first one to attempt it on the massive scale in this book.
The Sound and the Fury
William Faulkner's greatest work is this novel that is usually considered as one of the most challenging novels. The story is of a big family in decline(下降).For much of the novel, the point of view is the first person, while the final section suddenly switches to the third person.Techniques like that are what make this book remarkable.
Red-Harvest
This classic novel from Dashiell Hammett remains incredibly influential for its tone, language and plot.A private detective is hired to clean up a corrupt(腐敗的) town,a place where the police also involve in the corruption.Sounds familiar, right? It's because so many books, films, and TV shows have stolen the basic plot of Red Harvest.

2.Have you ever considered all the English expressions that include words about clothes?Let's have a look.
People wear pants to cover the lower part of their bodies. We sometimes say that people who are nervous have ants(螞蟻)in their pants.Sometimes, people may get caught with their pants down. They are found doing something they should not be doing. And,in every family, one person takes control.Sometimes a wife tells her husband what to do.Then we say she wears the pants in the family.
Pants usually have pockets to hold things.Money that is likely to be spent quickly can burn a hole in your pocket,Sometimes you need a belt to hold up your pants. If you have less money than usual, you may have to tighten your belt.
I always praise people who can save their money and not spend too much.I really take my hat off to them.Yet,when it comes to my own money,I spend it at the drop of a hat, which means I instantly spend it.
Boots are a heavy or strong kind of shoes.People who are too big for their boots think they are more important than they really are.I dislike such people. My father is an important person. He runs a big company. He wears a suit and tie,and a shirt, with sleeves(衣袖)that cover his arms. Some people who do not know him well think he is too serious and never shows his feelings openly. But I know that my father wears his heart on his sleeve.

3.Living and dealing with kids can be a tough job these days but living and dealing with parents can be even tougher.
If I have learned anything in my 16 years,it is that communication is very important, both when you disagree and when you get along. With any relationship, you need to let other people know how you are feeling. If you are not able to communicate, you drift apart. When you are mad at your parents,or anyone else, not talking to them doesn't solve anything .
Communication begins with the concerns(關心)of another. It means that you can't just come home from school,go up to your room and take no notice to anyone.Even if you just say "Hi",and see how their day was for five minutes,it is better than nothing.
If you looked up the word "communication" in a dictionary,it would say "the exchange of ideas, the conveyance(表達)of information, correspondence(通信),means of communication:a letter or a message".To keep a good relationship, you must keep communication strong.Let people know how you feel, even if it's just by writing a note.
When dealing with parents, you always have to make them feel good about how they are doing as a parent. If you are trying to make them see something as you see it,tell them that you'll listen to what they have to say,and ask them politely to listen to you.Shouting or walking away only makes the situation worse.
Here is an example:one night,Sophie went to a street party with her friends. She knew she had to be,home by midnight after the fireworks, but she didn't feel she could just ask to go home. That would be rude. After all, they had been nice enough to take her along with them.Needless to say,she was late getting home. Her parents were mad at first, but when Sophie explained why she was late, they weren't as mad and let it go.Communication is the key here.If Sophie's parents had not been willing to listen,Sophie would have been in a lot of trouble.
Communication isn't a one-way matter:it goes both ways.Just remember:if you get into a situation like:Sophie's,tell the other person how you feel-listening is the key to communication.
(1)Which of the following statements will the author probably agree with?
A.Dealing with parents is more difficult.
B.Dealing with parents is much easier.
C.Dealing with parents is less interesting.
D.Dealing with kids is more important.
(2)What does the underlined phrase "drift apart" in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.keep up with others
B.move along smoothly
C.distance yourself from others
D.come closer to each other
(3)What does the example in Paragraph 6 show?
A.Politeness is important in communication.
B.Sophie's parents are willing to listen to her.
C.Sophie did well in explaining her being late.
D.Communication is the solution to misunderstanding.
(4)Which is not right about communication according to the text?
A.Communication is a two-way matter.
B.It is better to say "Hi" to others than say nothing.
C.If you don't agree with others, you'd better let them know.
D.When dealing with parents, you only need to listen to them.組卷:6引用:1難度:0.5 -
4.Have you ever thought about why malls, restaurants, and even theaters have music?Well,to understand this ,you simply just look back at how you felt when you heard music in these places.Music is known to improve the mood of people.Often music helps us pay attention to what we are doing.Music helps patients feel good and better.
Depression(沮喪)is a state of mind that most of us experience at some point of time. There are some periods in our life when everything seems difficult. It seems that everything is getting worse and we have no control over our life.Studies have shown that music can be an important mood lifter in such situations.Music also plays a great role in making us feel less nervous or worried.Anxiety can often cause loss of sleep and other illnesses.
Music is often known as an international language. We may not know the language another person is speaking, but most of us respond to music in the same,Music can often be the best way to connect with someone.
Music is one of the best ways to improve your moods, but this can depend largely on the kind of music you listen to.While happy music can certainly make you feel better, sad music can further lower your spirits.Listening to classical music can often make you feel a lot more powerful, while soft music can be the perfect way to relax at the end of a long day.If you want to use music to change the way how you are feeling, you need to understand the role of it,learn to recognize the kind of music that lifts your mood and helps you feel better.Once you realize the kind of music you can use,you can use it to change the way you feel. The right kind of music can be the perfect way to help us feel happier.
