  • 1.    Building with 3 D printing technology is sparking widespread interest in the construction industry.Besides reducing waste and our impact on the environment,it can speed up construction from weeks,or months,to days.To see how the technology can change the world around us,here are some projects that highlight bold ideas in 3 D print building.
        Instant Neighborhood
Community building takes on new meaning with the creation of a neighborhood of 3 D printed homes in Tabasco,Mexico, aimed at tackling global homelessness.American non-profit New Story and tech company ICON built each concrete house from start to completion in 24 hours.New Story says its aim is to provide shelter for people without homes around the world.
        Nested Housing

African island state Madagascar is hosting one of the world's most forward-thinking school building projects.Non-profit Thinking Huts is using 3 D print technology to provide school s where children have little or no access to education.School s are built using local materials and low carbon concrete in under a week.
        Concrete Steps
Researchers at the Swiss University ETH Zurich used concrete 3 D printing to build the 16 metre long 'curved Striatus footbridge in a couple of days. The project used 500 layers of concrete and 53 hollow blocks, held in place by compression(壓縮).This reduces materials by up to 70 per cent, and the entire bridge can be pulled down and recycled.

  • 2.Reviewing photos fresh from the printer and discussing new ideas in the meeting room,I express my creative side by translating real-world trends and topics into the print in the SHSID,the school magazine of Shanghai High School International Division.
I was first interested in visuals and design because of their power to communicate ideas.Throughout my three and a half years in the design department of the SHSID,I've faced the ongoing challenge of translating ideas into visuals that are not only appealing, but also informative.
In the early days of my participation as a freshman designer, every issue of the magazine came with frustration, from struggling over the difficulties of Photoshop to seeing my designs changed completely by the editors working above me.However, after constant experiments and many long months of practicing,I finally started to understand the key elements of the position. Two years later,I was offered the job of creative director.
The newly earned position came with unique challenges.Unlike a normal art piece or design spread, designing a bimonthly (雙月刊),52-page magazine is really challenging. The finished product must contain not only my ideas, but also those of other department directors and the 20 members of my team.Through waves of differing opinions over the years,I've learned much about negotiation, leadership, and compromise.
Applying these lessons still produces a sense of accomplishment:the feeling of joy as reposts of our video projects fill everyone's news feeds;the satisfaction as fellow designers come up with ideas of inspiration;the excitement whenever others offer the magazine praise. These moments make the long nights of frozen computer screens and staying up late completely worth it.
By the September/October 2017 issue, the magazine had achieved all that I'd hoped for.Through authentic and catching photo spreads, illustrations (插畫) and articles,we've done everything from communicating ideas on shifting pop culture identity to building a greater appreciation for Chinese culture in our school community.

(1)What does the author do now?

    A.A director.
    B.An editor.
    C.A photographer.
    D.A designer.
(2)What made the author feel frustrated at the beginning?

A.He couldn't use some software well.
B.He couldn't stand others changing his design.
C.He didn't do many experiments and practice.
D.He didn't get the key factors of his position.
(3)The author thought his newly position was challenging, because he needed to
    .
    A.negotiate with other department directors
B.combine his ideas with other directors
    C.compromise on the ideas
    D.widely cooperate with others
(4)How did the author feel after the bimonthly magazine came out?

    A.Annoyed.
    B.Confused.
    C.Satisfied.
    D.Inspired.

  • 3.In the past, westerners were not familiar with Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM),but now it is becoming globally popular.According to a government report,TCM has been introduced into 183 countries and regions around the world.
However, westerners only have a little knowledge of TCM.Their understanding of TCM may be limited to acupuncture(針灸),cupping and massage(按摩).For instance, the purple,injury-like marks left on a U.S.jye.ai swimmer's back from cupping to relax his muscles and reduce pain became the centre of attention during the Rio Olympics in 2016.
In fact,Chinese herbs(藥草)play a more important role in curing diseases and keeping the body in good condition in the TCM treatment system than physical treatment. Therefore,it is disappointing to know that although 103 World Health Organisation member countries have given approval to the practice of acupuncture, not many recognise Chinese herbal medicine.TCM is much less popular than Western medicine partly due to the slow development of Chinese herbs.
Herbs can be made into pills, powder and soup. The kind of herbs used, their quality, quantity and the processing together determine the effectiveness of the prescription(處方).Compared with Western medicine, which has standardised drug production processes and treatment methods,TCM lacks standardisation. The chemical composition and functions of its medicine are still unclear and their effects are unstable.Fortunately, standardisation has improved in recent decades and a number of factories are increasingly producing patented TCM drugs.
Another reason why TCM prescription drugs have developed slowly is that it lacks creativity. While Western medicine-making companies come up with new products every year,TCM drug producers tend to make medicine according to prescriptions handed down from the past. That Chinese chemist Tu Youyou won the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for her research into malaria(瘧疾)treatment may drive creativity to some extent in China's TCM industry.
However,Rome was not built in a day.The current situation cannot be changed within a short time.

(1)What does the example of an American swimmer in Paragraph 2 show?

A.Westerners know a little about TCM.
B.Cupping is a kind of important TCM treatment.
C.He was injured in his swimming.
D.TCM is very popular among westerners.
(2)Why don't some member countries of WHO recognise Chinese herbal medicine?

A.Chinese herbs can get rid of diseases.
B.They only approve the practice of acupuncture.
    C.Western medicine is more effective.
D.Medicine made out of Chinese herbs develops slowly.
(3)How does the writer feel about the future of TCM?

    A.Anxious.
    B.Negative.
    C.Optimistic.
    D.Disappointed.
(4)What is the best title of the passage?

    A.The Effectiveness of TCM.
    B.The Barriers to TCM's Development.
    C.The Weakness of TCM.
    D.The Future of TCM.

讀后續(xù)寫

  • 9.閱讀下面短文,根據(jù)所給情節(jié)進(jìn)行續(xù)寫,使之構(gòu)成一個(gè)完整的故事。
"If mum finds out that I'm going to the beach,I'll be in big trouble." I said to myself softly in a low voice.
I went downstairs slowly and tried to walk into the kitchen. As I was walking towards the back door, mum asked without looking up from her dish-washing, "Where are you going?" I answered back without hesitation (毫不猶豫地), "I am going to the garden to play." After I got out of the kitchen,I breathed in relief. My plan had worked so far!I climbed the fence and jumped onto the muddy field next to my house and started running towards the bus stop at full speed.
After half an hour I was at the beach seeking for my friends,Jimmy and Bobby. Two young men were racing in the canoes (獨(dú)木舟).After a while,I saw them near a coconut tree.I ran towards them and got into my swimming trunk (游泳褲).For about an hour,we played volleyball happily.
Suddenly,Bobby hit the ball too hard and it fell into the sea.Just as Bobby was going to pick up the ball, the tide (潮水) came in and carried the ball further away from the shore,I was excited. However, just as I was going to get the ball,a very strong current ((海洋或江河的)水流) swept the ball further away from me.At that moment,a string of weed (海草) tangled (纏繞) up with my feet and I could not swim properly.
I struggled to keep afloat (漂浮的) but it was no use. "If I had listened to my parents, this would never have happened," I thought silently.

    注意:
    (1)續(xù)寫詞數(shù)應(yīng)為150左右;
    (2)請(qǐng)?jiān)诖痤}卡的相應(yīng)位置作答。
    Paragraph 1:
Finally, after struggling for a minute or two,I still got pulled underwater.

    Paragraph 2:
When I woke up,I was in an empty room lying on a bed.
