  • 2.I'm a Russian. In my native country, people believe that those who always keep big smiles on their faces,if they don't have a real reason to do so,are not genuine(真誠的).For the last five years,I've lived in Kansas. What brought me to this country was my American husband,John.I work in a department store, where my coworkers show big smiles to me and pronounce my Russian name so sweetly.Every time I hear it,I feel as though my mom is embracing(擁抱)me.
Last year John encouraged me to go to see my mom back in Russia, and my manager even gave me a month of for the trip. When you live an ocean apart from your family, you need at least a month to visit them.I bought a plane ticket and packed my suitcase. Then came Covid-19.My mood became grey as I realized I couldn't go to see my mom.
A couple of weeks later,my sweet coworker Miss Donna asked me, "So what's happening with your trip to Russia?" I told her I had to cancel it and I wouldn't be able to see my mom this year.
Miss Dona didn't say anything at first. Then she put on a big smile and said,"Well, you can come to my home and see my mom!" "Oh my Lord!" I was at a loss for words.Imagine a mom for loan(借出)!I honestly don't know whether I would offer the same to someone in need of a mother's warmth, but my new people surely would do it for me.
I know that because of the virus, you shouldn't hug friends, but you can still embrace someone's heart. That's how my heart felt at that moment:hugged. So,yes, believe me,big smiles with no reason can be genuine.

(1)What can we know from the first paragraph?

A.The author believes big smiles are false.
B.The author works together with her husband.
C.The author seldom wears big smiles in Russia.

B.Because the manager didn't allow her to leave.
    C.Because Covid-19 broke out unexpectedly.
D.Because she was invited to Miss Donna's home.
(3)How did the author feel when invited to Miss Donna's home?

    A.She was happy.
    B.She was touched.
    C.She was confused.
    D.She was uncertain.
(4)Which of the following can be the best title for the text?

  • 3.As a young boy growing up in Sicily,F(xiàn)rancesco Romito would hear stories about a different Italy-a wild place, where hunters still robbed the forests. It aroused a strong feeling in him,one that would take him high in the mountains of northern Italy.Once there, his love for wildlife continued to grow, bringing him face to face with one species in particular:the wolf.
In Italy-especially rural areas-the wolf is considered as a "danger",and a big part of Francesco and his group members' role is fighting against this "dangerous description",through positive and factual communications.Social media has become a very powerful tool, where they share news about their research operations, wolf tracking and updates about upcoming events.Currently, they have a 50,000-strong following. The goal is to create an environment where wolves and humans can co-exist peacefully.
When Francesco isn't posting online,he's usually out in the mountains looking for wolves. As one of the most elusive animals in Europe, tracking them requires almost superhuman patience. "It's not easy to study. It's not easy to find information. It's mainly a night animal,so it's just not easy to see!" In order to promote the rewilding of wolves in Italy,F(xiàn)rancesco also meets with local people, farmers, and sheep raisers. In these meetings,he explains the benefits of having wild wolves around. "It's not easy to manage people's feelings about this animal," he says. "It's easy for people to be scared."
So far,the group's approach seems to be working.Italian wolf numbers dropped down to around 100 individuals in the 1970s;today,it's estimated that there could be as many as 900 in the wild.

(1)What inspired Francesco to be concerned about wolves?

    A.The life of hunters.
    B.The place he grew up.
    C.The stories about the wildlife.
    D.The mountains of northern Italy.
(2)Why do Francesco's group want to remove the "dangerous description"?

    A.Because wolves are endangered species.
B.Because wolves are regarded as dangerous animals.
C.Because social media are doing research operations.
D.Because they want to create a harmonious environment.
(3)What does the underlined word "elusive" in Paragraph 3 mean?

    A.Hard to trap.
    B.Hard to follow.
    C.Hard to describe.
    D.Hard to recognize.
(4)What is the purpose of the text?

A.To introduce the wolves in Italy.
B.To appeal to people to protect wolves.
C.To tell readers some stories about wolves.
D.To explain the benefits of having wild wolves around.

  • 4.Do you walk out of a room with an idea in your head, only to discover moments later that it's gone?If so,don't worry:it's a very common experience, and one that scientists believe they can explajye.ai.In fact, when you know why it happens, you can do some very simple things to stop it!The problem is often caused by "event boundaries(界限)".These are cues your memory uses to stop remembering,in the belief that a particular mental task is over. When you walk out of a room, you create such an event boundary, signaling to your brain that it can put anything not firmly fixed in place.Tests have proved that we're much more forgetful when we move from one location to another. But the same happens when we go from one activity to another, too. It's because anything that seems like the end of a task - closing a study book, finishing a phone call, taking a cake out of the oven - can have the same effect.Within seconds, the information you revised, the arrangements you made with your friend,or the new recipe(食譜)you just used, has disappeared.
But here's how to fight back.First, stop telling your brain that its work is done. This can be as simple as leaving a book open instead of putting it back on the shelf.Second, create clues to carry with you across any unavoidable event boundary. If possible, say the key points out loud:the job you're walking off to do in the next room. And picture the details you want to keep, because memory depends on imagery.
Every day you're faced with event boundaries that make you fail to do your recall. But by avoiding them when you can,and disguising(偽裝)them when you can't,you'll find that much less of your learning gets lost.

(1)When are people more forgetful according to Paragraph 1?

A.When they close a study book.
B.When they walk out of a room.
    C.When they revise the information.
D.When they stop to do another thing.
(2)Which of the following can help fight back event boundaries?

    A.Talk to yourself loudly.
B.Carry a notebook to take notes.
C.Memorize details in form of image.
D.Close the book and place it in place.
(3)What is the author's attitude to event boundaries?

    A.Positive.
    B.Unclear.
    C.Doubtful.
    D.Favorable.
(4)In which section of a newspaper may this text appear?

    A.Health.
    B.Nature.
    C.Education.
    D.Entertainment.
