The five-year-old cat weighed 33 pounds when he was adopted by owners Mike Wilson and Megan Hanneman in April 2017.The couple discovered the cat by chance during a visit to the Humane Society of West Michigan. "Neither of us had seen a cat that size before and we thought he was so cute."
Mike, who runs a cat furniture business, said, "The Humane Society did an interview to make sure that whoever adopted him was going to take his weight loss seriously. And we promised we would. We were lucky that the lady that interviewed us had heard of our company and was excited because she knew that we had experience with sitting up a healthy lifestyle."
After bringing Bronson home, the couple decided to help him lose weight at a slow pace to prevent health problems.Since Bronson was adopted a few months ago,the couple have changed the cat's diet three times, focusing on grain-free wet food.He is also played with more regularly- a decision the pair hope will keep Bronson active and help him lose the pounds.
Since joining his new family,Bronson has lost over 20 percent of his body weight.Once he loses enough weight,he'll be able to join his owners and 3 cat partners for walks outside. 3.The coronavirus emergency exploded into a full-blown pandemic in early 2020 forcing countless businesses to shut, but robot-making companies found themselves in an unusual situation. Many of those robot-making companies saw a sharp rise in orders.
Robots don't need masks can be easily disinfected, and of course, they don't get sick.An army of automatons (自動化機器人) has been arranged all over the world to help with the crisis. They are monitoring patients, sanitizing hospitals, making deliveries, and helping front line medical workers reduce their exposure to the virus. Not all robots operate autonomously, many in fact require direct human assistance and most are limited to simple repeating tasks, but robot makers say the experience they've gained during this fighting against COVID-19 will make their future robots smarter and more capable.
Offices, stores, and medical centers are adopting robots to defense against a new coronavirus code.A number of robots serves as the first line of defense against person-to-person transmission at a medical center in Kigali Rwanda.Patients walking into the facility get their temperature checked by the machines which are equipped with thermal cameras(熱感攝像)atop their heads. In Singapore, the Bishan-Ang Moh Kio Park unleashed a Spot robot dog developed by Boston Dynamics to monitor social distancing.Developed by UBTech Robotics, the robots also use their special appearance to get people's attention and remind them to wash their hands and wear masks. To speed up COVID-19 testing,a team of Danish doctors and engineers at the University of Southern Denmark is developing a fully automated swab (拭子) robot. It uses computer vision and machine learning to identify the perfect target spot inside the person's throat then a robotic arm with a long swab reaches in to collect the sample all done with a swiftness and consistency that humans can' t match.
Robots can't replace real human interaction,of course, but they can help people feel more connected at a time when meetings and other social activities are mostly on hold.
(1)Why are robot-making companies in an unusual situation?
A.They possess smarter robots.
B.They innovate new management systems.
C.They receive larger orders for robots.
D.They start producing and selling of face masks.
(2)What do the makers expect of the robots according to the text?
A.To speed up COVID-19 testing.
B.To take the place of human completely.
C.To be more flexible and autonomous.
D.To monitor patients, sanitize hospitals and make deliveries.
(3)Which of the following best explains "unleashed" underlined in Paragraph 3?
A.Applied.
B.Updated.
C.Created.
D.Old.
(4)What's the main idea of the text?
A.Robots played a vital role during COVID-19 pandemic.
B.Robot-making companies produced smarter and more capable robots.
C.Robots could use swabs to collect testing samples.
D.Robots will take the place of human completely.組卷:4引用:1難度:0.5
