2.Many people say dolphins are intelligent. They seem to be able to think, understand and learn things quickly. But are they as smart as humans,or are they more like cats and dogs?Dolphins use their brains quite differently from the way humans do.But scientists say dolphins and humans are very similar in some ways. How?
Like humans, every dolphin has its own "name".The name is a special whistle (哨聲).Each dolphin chooses a specific (特有的) whistle for itself, usually by its first birthday.Dolphins are like people in other ways, too. They "talk" to each other about a lot of things-such as their age, their feelings, and finding food. They also use a system of sounds and body language to communicate.Understanding dolphin conversation is not easy for humans. No one "speaks dolphin" yet,but some scientists are trying to learn.
Dolphins are also social animals. They live in groups called pods, and they often join others from different pods to play games and have fun--just like people.Scientists believe playing together is something only intelligent animals do.
Dolphins and humans are similar in another way:both species make plans for getting things they want.In the seas of southern Brazil, for example, dolphins use an intelligent plan to get food. When there are fish near a boat, dolphins signal (發(fā)信號) to the fishermen to put their nets in the water.Using this method, the men can catch a lot of fish. Why do dolphins help the men? There is an advantage for them. They get to eat some of the fish that escape (逃脫) from the net.
(1)What is a dolphin's "name"?
A.It is a kind of game.
B.It is a body sign.
C.It is a dolphin's age.
D.It is a specific sound.
(2)What does the underlined word "others" refer to?
A.Other fishes.
B.Other people
C.Other dolphins
D.Other games
(3)What can we infer(推斷) from the passage?
A.Some scientists can understand dolphins system of sounds.
B.Dolphins probably help fishermen by using their body language.
C.Humans join dolphins' groups to get things we want.
D.Dolphins can talk to humans about their age and their feelings.
(4)What's the main idea of the passage?
A.Dolphins can communicate with each other at birth.
B.Dolphins are social animals because they play together.
C.Dolphins are smart and are like humans in some ways.
D.Dolphins help humans do many things like catching fish.組卷:0引用:1難度:0.5 -
3.We like to believe that before we make a decision, most of the time,we take time to consider all the facts carefully. However, experts believe that only 5% of our decisions are based on a rational (理性的)thought process. So,what influences our decision-making process?
We often leave decision-making to our instincts(本能).Scientists have found out that if we had the choice,we like to avoid pain rather than get somethjye.aig.In fact,we're twice as happy when we try to avoid a bad situation. This is why when companies send ads, they use phrases like "How to avoid...", "Don't miss out!" etc.
There are also physical reasons that affect our decision-making.Psychologist (心理學(xué)家)John Bargh carried on an experiment where people were asked what they thought of a person, while holding a cold or a hot cup of coffee. Those holding the hot cup believed the person to be warmer and more sociable than those holding the cold cup. So,when temperatures rise, the more likely we are to believe in strangers.
Stress is another thing which affects our decisions.Different situations are more or less stressful for different people.Researchers have found, though, that women are more conservative (保守的)about decisions when stressed, while men are to make riskier choices.
It may come as a surprise but every day from the minute we get up,we have to make countless decisions, like what to wear, what coffee to have and so on.Each choice makes our brain a little more tired, and this affects our decision-making.That's why important people, like presidents wearing the same three suits all the time, want to limit the small choices and spend more brain power (力量)on the bigger ones.
(1)Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?A. B. C. D.
A.Every day we have to make lots of big decisions.
B.People sometimes judge a person by what he wears.
C.What people wear influences their decision making.
D.Making fewer decisions helps to save brain power.
(3)What can we learn from the passage?
A.We make most of the decisions after our careful thinking.
B.People are likely to be happier to avoid something bad.
C.As the temperature is low,we are likely to believe in strangers.
D.People usually have risky decisions under heavy stress.
(4)The passage is written to
A.tell us what influences decision-making
B.a(chǎn)dvise people to make rational decisions
C.a(chǎn)sk people not to make risky decisions
D.show disadvantages of rational decisions組卷:0引用:1難度:0.4 -
4.At my primary school,I was one of the smartest kids there.I never studied, but always got perfect scores.I thought I was born clever.I was also a prodigy in music.I could sing better than almost everyone else in my class.I was pretty sure that once I got to sixth grade, everyone would be surprised by me.But actually, they weren't.
When I arrived at my new class,I couldn't wait to show everyone what I could do.However, there was always someone else who could do better.I was not the top.More talented girls often sang solo(獨唱).I believed I wasn't talented.I believed I was a failure.
Over the next two years,I had to work very hard. Some prizes for the singing competition were given to me for efforts.Grades were still low but improving little by little. However,I was never the best at everything.
I haven't realized until recently that I really don't have to be the best at everything.I was too hard on myself. In fact, when I did badly in a test,my classmates never laughed at me.
No one is perfect. There will probably always be someone better than me at something.Anyway, there are about seven billion people in this world.I will never be the number one at everything, and trying my best is really okay.

A.She won some prizes without any efforts.
B.She found the best way to become perfect.
C.She gave up trying because of the low scores.
D.She failed to be perfect though she worked hard.
(4)Which would be the best title for this passage?
A.No one is perfect
B.My past life as a young girl

Storytelling has caught the human imagination for thousands of years.People everywhere have told stories to amuse(娛樂),to teach,to remember, and just to pass the time.People started telling stories long before writing was invented. (1)
Before people developed writing, storytelling was the most important way to pass along information.Anything a culture wanted to protect ---its beliefs, its history, and its traditions---had to be told out loud. Each generation would tell the culture's stories to the next. (2)
(3)
However, stories told aloud change over time as different people tell them.A storyteller might change a story in order to make it better.Or a teller may simply not remember all the details of a story.Unlike written stories, the spoken tradition is not created by any one person. (5)A.In this way the stories were passed along.
B .In some cultures everyone would pass along the stories.
C .Songs and poems can both make stories easier to remember.
D.Instead,a whole culture helps shape the changing stories throughout history.
E.Today stories are also written down in books and acted out in movies,TV shows, and plays.
