  • 1.閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的A、B、C和D四個(gè)選項(xiàng)中,選出最佳選項(xiàng)。
An earthquake is one of the most common natural disasters. It may cause great damage. So it is wise to learn some simple safety tips to protect yourself or your family members.
Fragile items like those made of glass are easily broken and should usually be placed on a lower surface, near the ground instead of on the cupboards higher up.Never place them near your bed, sofas and other furniture where you would be sitting or lying down. When there is a strong movement, these pieces will fall on the floor directly and not on you.
There is a strong chance of short circuits (短路) and fire during an earthquake.Make sure you turn off electrical connections and gas immediately when an earthquake happens.
During an earthquake, lie beneath an object that is not easily damaged.Do not go near objects that could directly fall on you.Never use the elevator to go down.Stay inside until the shaking stops and it is safe to go outside.Research has shown that most injuries happen when people inside buildings try to go out.Use the staircases at all times.
If you are outdoors,do not take shelter under a tree, streetlights, electric poles or tall buildings. If you are driving, stop your car and stay in a safe place.Do not park your car under a tree or any tall object.
If trapped in debris (瓦礫堆) ,cover your mouth with a handkerchief or clothing.Tap on a pipe or the wall so that rescuers can find you.Use a whistle (哨子) if one is available.
Never shout for help.Shouting can cause you to breathe in dangerous amounts of dust.Do not light a match because you may burn yourself.Do not move about or kick up dust.

  • 2.If you enjoy reading, the world in books will become a place which is not to be experienced in watching television only for entertainment.Studies have shown how those who read for pleasure achieve more in literacy(讀寫(xiě)能力) and thinking abilities than those who don't.Actually, there is nothing else that will expand your language skills and make your imagination fly.
To begin with, language skills can be better learned through reading for pleasure than through watching TV for entertainment. At its best, television can be educational as well as entertaining, but nobody wishes to improve his literacy by simply sitting in front of a TV box. Therefore, only by reading can you enlarge your vocabulary. However,it must be made clear that the relation between literacy and reading is like comparing health to sport. One is something practical and the other is something you do because you enjoy it.
The books that help you most in imagination are those that make you think most.In this point, reading for pleasure, both paper-based and on-screen,is far more helpful than watching TV.For example, there is always a book which is opened with expectation and closed with profit:imagination.Unluckily, some people's love of books is lost influenced by television, which is considered as a decline in thinking abilities.
On the whole, watching TV is largely harmless as an entertainment and information tool, but there is no better way to improve your language skills and imagination than reading for pleasure. For those who would continue to enjoy reading, there is a paradise(樂(lè)園) not yet being lost.Having got an amount of language skills through wide reading, you might as well imagine that such a paradise would not be very unlike a kind of library.

D.More language skills will be gained as people read more.

Maybe,we all need to treat others with more patience and understanding. Then we might be repaid in unexpected ways.
Fifteen years ago,I took a trip to Lecce in southern Italy.Lecce is an important place for art and culture lovers.Walking among churches and old buildings in the city center is a dive into the past.More importantly,it's an ideal place for photographing.
One morning,I got up early enough for a sweeping view of the sunrise, the blue sea, white buildings and green trees. After climbing up a hill,I paused to catch my breath. As I looked around I was shocked by the breath-taking views in front of me.
When I positioned myself to take some pictures,a woman suddenly approached from behind, and planted herself right in front of my view.Like me,I thought, this woman was here to stop for a short break, and enjoy the scenery.Beyond my expectation, she stood still as if something caught her attention, not noticing anyone else's presence around her.
For about 10 minutes,I used my camera to scan the sun and review the shot I would eventually take.Patient as I was,I got bored finally. "Is it too much to ask her to move aside so that I can take just one picture of the landscape?" I asked myself.
Of course,I could have asked her,but something prevented me from doing so.
She seemed so absorbed in her observation that I didn't have the heart to mess with that.So I decided to wait.
Another 10 minutes passed. However, the woman was still there.I grew really impatient.I decided to take the photo anyway. With an unwilling touch of the shutter (快門),I left in low spirits.
After the photos were printed,I tried to find the photo "ruined" by the woman.___________
Now this photo hangs on a wall in my study.________
