• 19．When Jackie came to his first piano lesson in his mother's car，he was already 11 years old.I preferred students begin at an earlier age，but owing to his insistence，I took him as a student.As much as Jackie tried，he lacked the sense of tone and basic rhythm （節(jié)奏）.At the end of each lesson，he'd say，"My mom's going to hear me play someday." But it seemed hopeless.I only knew his mother from a distance as she waited in her aged car，but never stepped in.

      The concert went off smoothly.Then Jackie came up on stage.His clothes were wrinkled（皺巴巴的） and his hair looked messy （凌亂的）. "Why didn't his mother at least make him comb his hair for this special night？" I thought.
