3．Until a few weeks ago，Asians were the only mask wearers in Western countries，causing even unfriendly responses from the Westerners.But this taboo（禁忌） is falling apart fast after more and more evidences from experiments say that the practice in effect in protecting human beings from infectious diseases.Now，an increasing number of Western countries，including Italy，F(xiàn)rance，the United States and Australia，have finally decided to recommend their citizens to wear masks in public places to protect one another from the deadly COVID-19 viruses.
For Western nations：the simple change is really difficult and the debate over the face mask has even developed into a larger discussion over the role of the individual in society.In the West，mask-wearing was seen through an individual's perspective.It runs like "I am free to decide whether to wear a mask to protect myself or not".However，in Asia，mask-wearing was seen through a social perspective.It runs like "If all individuals wear masks，the society will be protected".The logics are fundamentally different and the change would require a big cultural adjustment because mask wearing in public places was even considered "strange and frightening" to the Westerners.
